Gavin Rossdale is learning that sometimes it’s better to keep your thoughts to yourself. The musician recently opened up about his split with ex-wife Gwen Stefani, with whom he shares three children, and the response may not be what he expected. Gwen and Gavin were married for 13 years before rumors of Gavin’s infidelity began to make the rounds. Gwen has spoken a little about their divorce publicly since then, but Gavin has stayed largely quiet about it. Now that Gwen is remarried to country singer Blake Shelton, it seems her ex is more comfortable sharing his feelings about the end of the relationship, but apparently, some people would rather he didn't.

The divorce came as a bit of a surprise.
Gavin opened up about his divorce during a recent appearance on the Amy & T.J. podcast.
"I never thought I'd ever get divorced. So there's a simple shame in my life," he explained. "I feel bad for my kids, that's it. I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn't fun for me to come from a broken home … It can be quite debilitating for kids … the overriding things is you don't want to let your kids down."
He also said he wished he had "more of a connection" with his ex-wife, with whom he shares three sons: Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo.
This led to Gavin getting dragged for the cheating rumors all over again.
Entertainment Tonight shared his quote about the "shame" he felt at divorcing and the effect it would have on his kids, and commenters had no trouble pointing out his past infidelity.
"Did he feel bad for the kids … while he was cheating?" one comment read.
"You cheated? You didn’t think you’d get divorced? What did you think would happen lol," someone wrote.
"So he cheats on her, she divorces him and moves on with her life and he’s p—ed off that she doesn’t have a 'better connection' with him? Dude you’re lucky she ever gives you the time of day at this point," another comment read.

When Gwen and Gavin split in 2015, it was revealed that the main reason for their divorce was that Gavin had reportedly been cheating on Gwen for several years with their kids’ nanny. At the time, US Weekly reported that Gwen had found "explicit texts" between the two, as well as nude photos on the family’s iPad. News of the affair "completely devastated" Gwen.
"She was mortified, livid, and embarrassed," a source told the news outlet.

There have been some co-parenting struggles along the way.
Gavin, who has admitted he and Gwen don’t really co-parent, also shared how he chooses to navigate situations where Gwen and her current husband Blake Shelton will be present.
"I go to a lot of events where there's 'the other team,' so to speak and I just feel really proud of myself in my consistency as a father," he shared. He then went on to call the divorce and subsequent dealings with Gwen "hugely emotional."
Still, he regrets nothing.
"I'm handcuffed because I would never want to overly say anything negative about their mom," he said, referring to his sons. "That's just not right."
Despite the way their relationship ended, Gavin claims that he has no regrets. "I think that there's no accidents in life so you are where you're meant to be. So I don't live in regret," he said. "Life just unfolds how it should."
