Last week, Gwyneth Paltrow hosted a Q&A on her social media account. She opened up about many random things, but one viewer question was answered with a photo of her daughter, 19-year-old Apple Martin, and Gwyneth's controversial dress in the early aughts.
During the Q&A, one fan asked if her daughter, Apple, ever borrows things from her closet.
"Does Apple ever wear any of ur fashion archives," one commenter asked Gwyneth.
And she took the time to answer the question. She responded with a photo of Apple wearing a very controversial dress.
The answer is 'Yes.' Apple does go through her mom's closet.

In the photo, Apple is rocking Gwyneth's infamous gown that she wore to the 2002 Oscars while in her mom's walk-in closet, surrounded by her massive wardrobe.
The gown that Apple is wearing from her mom's closet is the infamous Alexander McQueen look that caused a big stir on the red carpet more than 20 years ago.
The decision to wear the dress to the Oscars was criticized heavily back then.

People who love fashion know that not everyone will love every look. But when Gwyneth wore this dress to the Oscars, people didn't just dislike it — it caused a big stir, and Gwyneth wasn't really known for being fashion risky at the time.
The dress, which was a long dress that had a ruched see-through bodice, was paired with a side French braid and dark eyeliner. The it wasn't liked — at all.
At the time, the look was called a 'disaster,' the 'worst dress ever,' and more.

Gwyneth was a big topic when the red carpet looks for the 2002 Academy Awards was being analyzed. As the BBC noted at the time, "this morning Gwyneth Paltrow is probably sobbing with embarrassment."
Plus, the gown regularly makes the list of worst Oscar looks ever — even now.
But, despite all of that, somehow Apple makes it work.
Perhaps the gown was too risky for that time or Apple's more basic styling makes the dress look good — but it's a good look for her.
Over the years, Gwyneth has spoken about that 2002 Oscar gown, first admitting there were some things she should have changed with the styling, then holding to the idea that it was always a good look.
"There were a few issues; I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup," Gwyneth admitted in a 2013 Q&A. "Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to – a little bit of punk at the Oscars."
Then, in 2021, Gwyneth said she doesn't care what people think — she loves the look.
"Everybody really hated [it], but I think it's kind of dope," she said in a Vogue Life in Looks video in 2021. "I had a weird hangover about it for a while because people were really critical."
Either way, Apple can certainly pull this look off! And Gwyneth probably could now, too.
