It seems like nobody misses life before social media quite as much as Gwyneth Paltrow, who talked about what it was like being young and famous in Hollywood while appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday night's episode. To hear her tell it, Gwyneth was living it up in her early 20s — more than any of us even know at the time.
Gwyneth dished on her misspent youth while talking to the late-night host.
The mother of two got super candid about how she spent her early days and admitted that she was grateful to have come of age in a time before cellphones and social media.
"It was great, talk about doing cocaine and not getting caught," she joked. "You could just be at a bar having fun, dance on the table."
The lack of instant access to the news kept most of her antics private.
Celebrities can hardly make a run to the grocery store without ending up making headlines these days, which is why Gwyneth says she's so grateful for the time before the big tech boom.
"There were no camera phones, especially in New York, there were no paparazzi," she continued. "You could stumble out of a bar and go home with some rando and no one would know."
That definitely would not happen today!
This isn't the first time the 50-year-old wellness guru has talked about her past drug use.
In a 2015 appearance on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live!, Gwyneth was asked about the hardest drug she had ever taken, according to the Daily Mail.
The Goop founder admitted to having done ecstasy, which likely shocked fans at the time due to her mostly "good girl" reputation.
We're going to have to assume that the whole lack of camera phones really worked in Gwyneth’s favor!
A lot has changed for the actress since then.
Gwyneth obviously settled down later in life, welcoming two children with now ex-husband Chris Martin shortly after their marriage.
The former pair's children are now nearly adults themselves, with Apple being 18 and Moses 16, and Gwyneth spent a good deal of the rest of her interview gushing over them.
We have a feeling how candid Gwyneth is being won't go unappreciated by fans.
There are plenty of A-listers who would probably rather we go back to the '90s so they can avoid the prying eyes of the public when they're not actively promoting their work, but Gwyneth’s candor really highlighted just how much different things used to be for stars in the analog age.
Hopefully she's given her kids a good explainer on just how much public scrutiny they'll have to put up with now that they're nearly old enough to be out there on their own themselves … and living under a microscope at a tender age the way their mother never had to.
