What to Know
Two years after Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard lost their daughter, Isla Marie, she’s paying tribute to her little girl on Instagram. While sharing new photos of what she’s been up to lately on social media, Jill also shared a selfie at Isla’s grave alongside the happier moments she’s had with her family, including sons Israel, Samuel, and Freddy.
Jill made an Instagram post about life’s “ups and downs.”
In the first photo of the carousel of pictures that Jill shared, she can be seen sitting on the ground beside Isla’s grave — something she’s shown her followers before.
“Anyone who has experienced loss knows that it’s often in the quiet moments when the waves come stronger and we are reminded more of the hole left by a loss,” Jill wrote. “Or sometimes it’s felt deeper at a place that just gives you the space to feel. I’m so grateful to have a place to go to remember our daughter.”
She went on to share something she learned in case other loss moms ever needed the information, writing, “if you or someone you know experiences a pregnancy loss (no matter the gestation), cemeteries often have a designated baby burial area with much lower fees (or even free!) for babies and infants! Not everyone chooses to bury or process the same, but I think everyone should be aware of the option.”
In April 2024, Jill shared the news that her baby girl had been stillborn.
Jill still hadn’t announced that she was pregnant with Isla when she posted an update on social media about her loss in April 2024. Alongside a photo of her and Derick cradling their baby girl, the couple shared the heartbreaking news.
“Jill was 4 months pregnant (due in August) when we found out that our baby died in utero,” they wrote. “From the moment we found out we were pregnant, we couldn’t wait to meet our baby. Isla was much loved from the start, and her 3 big brothers were so excited to introduce her to their world.”
Jill seems to be doing okay these days.
Though she did mention her grief about the anniversary of losing Isla, Jill also wrote about the more positive memories she’d been making recently.
“So thankful for the recent happy moments too! The sun continues to shine & I love trying out my kids cooking! Recent recipes included maple cinnamon swirl bread & Froyo dots!” she wrote.
It’s good to hear that Jill seems to be doing well, especially after grieving such an enormous loss.
