Some parents never stop trying to influence the way their kids dress, and the Duggars are among them, according to Jeremy Vuolo. The Counting On alum described how Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar chided their adult daughter Jinger for her fashion choices. The news was uncovered through recently unsealed court documents obtained by The Sun — and that's not all the paperwork revealed.
Jinger has a much different style than many of her other famous siblings.
She definitely dresses less conservatively than some of her other sisters do, and even Jinger herself stuck to skirts, dresses, and covered-up shoulders when she was living under her parents' roof. Now that she's all grown up, nothing is off limits — including short shorts and tank tops.
Although that's hardly scandalous by most people's standards, the Duggars march to the beat of a different drummer and have taken issue with Jinger's fashion choices, according to her hubby.
Jeremy told the courts about the way his in-laws have come down on his wife for how she dresses.
Jinger, Jill, Joy-Anna, and Jessa brought a lawsuit against the City of Springdale, police department employees, and other entities for the leaking of an old police report that describes how the girls were sexually assaulted by their brother, Josh Duggar. Though the lawsuit has since been dismissed, documents from the case have recently been unsealed, and in one of the depositions, Jeremy described how Jim Bob and Michelle reacted to Jinger's fashion.
"Have they ever expressed any opinions about any different convictions that you and your wife have versus their own?" the interviewer asked Jeremy, to which he responded in the affirmative.
Modesty was a major topic of conversation for Jinger's parents.
According to Jeremy, the family has had several chats about Jinger's clothes. "They've spoken to us about — what was it — I guess modesty is one," he said. "We've had a couple of conversations."
The interviewer followed up by asking if Jinger breaks from her mother's views when it comes to wearing pants. "Is that the question of modesty that they talk to you about; pants versus skirts?" the person asked the reality star, to which he replied that his in-laws hold strong beliefs about women and dresses.
Generally speaking, Duggar women tend to wear dresses and skirts only until they're married (except for Jana Duggar, who's been wearing pants more and more lately), at which point the clothing choices are then supposed to be left up to the husband – something that seems to have backfired for Jim Bob in this scenario.
We're not surprised that Jim Bob and Michelle are unhappy with the way Jinger dresses.
Even though the Californian has clung to some of her conservative upbringing, she has definitely come into her own — and out from under her family's shadow — since leaving for the Golden State.
Many fans are loving Jinger's new style. It obviously suits her, and it seems like she's really flourishing out on the West Coast.
Jinger and Jeremy also shared how much money they made last year.
One of the major bombshells that has been uncovered in the newly unsealed court documents is how little money Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard have earned. The couple revealed that they were even forced to rely on food banks and the kindness of their neighbors at one point.
Jinger and Jeremy, on the other hand, seem to have been flourishing. The couple earned an estimated $200,000 in 2020 — with the vast majority brought in by Jinger alone.
Although Jim Bob and Michelle may not like the way their daughter dresses, they have to be proud of her business acumen. Jinger is obviously doing very well for herself, even if she is doing it all while wearing pants!
