The Duggar siblings are often catching flak for breaking away from the conservative Christian upbringing that was shown on 19 Kids and Counting, so it comes as no surprise that Jinger Duggar Vuolo and her husband Jeremy Vuolo are getting major side-eye after sharing that they’re celebrating Halloween. On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Duggar daughter made a post on her Instagram Stories sharing her family’s Halloween theme for this year.

Jinger shared the theme her girls have chosen.
“The girls decided our Halloween costume theme for this year!” Jinger wrote over an Instagram Stories post. “The cat in the Hat.” The mood board showed characters of the cat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, the mom, the fish, and the little sister.
Someone posted about it on Reddit.
“The Books will be celebrating a pagan holiday…” the Reddit user captioned a post, sharing the screenshot from Jinger’s page. “Not very Christian of you, Jinge. Never fails to amuse me how these people cherry pick which parts of their religion to follow.”

Other Reddit users responded.
“Can’t wait for Books to be The Cat in the Hat,” one person commented. “So unflattering.”
Another user wrote: “I’m surprised she even said the word Halloween. Most fundie lites who partake in Halloween activities just say things like ‘we are dressing up this year as..’ or ‘we went to a harvest festival and dressed up as..’.”
Her family also caught flak last year.
Jinger’s family faced scrutiny last year when they celebrated Halloween.
“Who am I to judge but we know that if you serve the Lord, you’re not supposed to celebrate Halloween,” one person commented under a post Jinger made on Instagram.
“Why do you celebrate Halloween if you love God so much?” another person asked. “Everything about the facts of Halloween go against what you teach. This is hypocritical.”
Other fans supported her family.
“The judgement in this page is appalling!” one fan wrote. “I’m reading the negative responses and wondering whose heart God is judging? I don’t think it’s the Jeremy and Jinger. Legalism is not becoming.”
Another user wrote: “This comment section is what is wrong with Christianity and churches. Stop following people, stop getting your right vs wrong based on what others do. Go to the Bible, seek the Lord and follow what He tells YOU to do for YOUR family. Focus on your own walk with Jesus, pray for all those around you but stop persecuting everyone for their decisions when you truly don’t know their lives or what God has called them to do. People CAN be a light in the darkness…Christians CAN be a light even on Halloween.”
