There was a time that wearing pants in general would've been unthinkable for Jinger Duggar, who was raised to follow a strict and modest dress code by 19 Kids and Counting parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. But in the years since she's stepped away from her family's controversial religious teachings, she's shown us just how fashion forward she's become … especially in one of her most recent photo shoots.
Jinger let her legs do the talking in a new promotional photo shoot.
The Counting On alum shared a recent vlog documenting some of the behind-the-scenes work she was doing to promote the release of her new book, Becoming Free Indeed.
In the video, Jinger explains how she ended up rocking a pair of tight leather pants for one of the photos.
The pants were actually her stylist's idea.
Jinger says she asked her stylist for help coming up with a few different looks for her LA photo shoot.
Her team came through, and offered up the all-black ensemble, which included a high-necked sweater and belt. She topped off the look by wearing a darker color on her lips, really showing fans just how far she's come.
Women in the Duggar family aren't supposed to wear pants until marriage.
The Institute in Basic Life Principles, which Jinger writes heavily about in her new book, has strict rules when it comes to clothing.
Jinger's parents strongly enforced the IBLP rules in her family, which required the women and girls to wear dresses and skirts and to keep their shoulders covered until they were married, at which point their new husbands would be put in charge of their wardrobe choices.
The pants may be more than just a fashion statement.
It's likely that Jinger is using the pants to send a message, both to her family and to the IBLP, to let them know just how serious she is about gaining her freedom from what she described as "fear-based" teachings.
Jinger's book talks a lot about how she had to unlearn so much of what she was taught growing up, and we imagine the rules around modesty were among the lessons she's breaking free from.
Jinger's been in New York celebrating her book launch.
It's been a busy couple of weeks for the former reality star, but it looks like she's handling it all with grace as she spent the weekend taking some time to relish in everything she's accomplished while dining out in the Big Apple.
We hope we're going to get to see more bold fashion choices from Jinger. It's clear she's turning into a regular fashionista now that she's no longer following the strict rules of her family's religion.
