When it comes to her hair, Joy-Anna Duggar — like most of her sisters — has played it pretty safe, even after leaving the nest. Though she’s had a few haircuts and gotten some highlights over the years since she became an adult, Joy-Anna has mostly kept her tresses all natural … until now. But after sharing her makeover online, it’s clear that she didn’t end up with the results she thought she would!

Joy decided to be a little spontaneous.
As she shared in a video on Instagram, Joy decided to go to the store and buy a box of hair dye with her friend, Gaby, to change things up a bit. And not only was this her first time working with box dye, but it was also her first time dyeing her hair ever.
If you guessed she was in for a ride, you were right!
'It's probably really bad for my hair, but it's just going to be fun!' she said.
She and her friend met up at Walmart, and she ended up picking out a brunette color a few shades darker than her natural hair. Not a huge change, but still noticeable enough, especially for someone who’s never colored their hair before.
Before diving in, Joy shared one last look at her totally natural hair, and then, she got to work.
Joy shared a second video with the results.
Here, we can see her dyeing her hair before nervously making the big reveal, showing off a head of hair that looked a lot darker than what she was used to seeing in the mirror.
In her caption, she wrote, ‘you only live once’ & ‘girls just want to have fun’ was behind this decision & then I quickly realized this was a stupid decision.”

Joy clearly didn't like her new 'do.
In fact, just a moment after she looked in the mirror to see the final results, she burst into tears — whatever she was expecting her hair to look like, this was not it!
In the comments, people tried to reassure her after seeing her heartbroken reaction. “It will lighten super fast! I use box dye and it always comes out way too dark at first,” one person wrote, while another fan added, “We all do it. Give it a minute to get used to it, I think it’s pretty!”
Joy's commenters are right — it will fade pretty quickly.
Before Joy knows it, she’ll be back to her regular color — and until then, as she continues to wash her hair, the color will begin to fade, so hopefully, she’ll be comfortable with the way she looks in a couple of days or weeks.
This is something that most of us do at least once … and a lot more of us regret it than we’re willing to admit. Good for Joy for keeping it real. Even if she doesn’t think so, the darker color does look pretty on her.
