Britney Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, hasn’t even been officially released yet but it’s already causing quite a stir in the entertainment world — and for some people specifically. The book doesn’t hit shelves until next week, but snippets of the book have been filtering out through the media, and some of the biggest headlines touch on her past relationship with Justin Timberlake.
Some of the revelations have been pretty surprising.
Excerpts of the book have been released by the New York Times and People, and those excerpts have been eye-opening.
In her book, Britney reveals she had an abortion while with Justin and that it wasn't a choice she would have made on her own. The book reportedly shares that it was Justin who insisted she get an abortion, saying he wasn't ready to be a dad.
"He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young," the excerpt says, per People. "If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father."
The book also touched on the rumors of why they broke up.
Justin and Britney broke up in 2002, ending their relationship of three-plus years. There were so many rumors at the time about Britney cheating on Justin that led to the breakup.
But in her book, Britney says Justin cheated on her, too. And there's a very real chance more will be revealed about their relationship once the book is released.
So far, Justin hasn't addressed any of the reports or Britney's book.
There have been several insiders, however, who have shared with the media how Justin is allegedly coping with these secrets being revealed, and those sources have conflicting reports.
People reported that an insider who it spoke to said Justin is “happy at home with Jess and their kids and he’s focusing on new music. He’s in such a great place."
Entertainment Tonight also spoke to an unnamed insider who said both Justin and his wife, Jessica Biel, aren’t paying any mind to Britney’s book.
"Justin has been focusing on his own family and trying not to concern himself with Britney’s memoir,” the source shared, according to the news outlet. “In recent years, Justin has tried to be supportive of Britney from a distance. They dated so long ago, but he still has respect for her. Justin and Jessica just want everyone to grow and evolve instead of continuing to bring up the past."
But other news outlets are reporting the opposite to be true.
The Sun spoke to an insider who said Justin is worried about how all this will play out for him.
“This book is a nightmare for him because of how it throws the whole family into chaos,” the insider said, according to the newspaper.
“The timing stings just as much as the revelation itself. Justin had a big fall planned with new music on deck, more work with his old friends in NSYNC, and of course, the next installment of the Trolls franchise, which has been a huge moneymaker for Justin over the last several years,” the source added.
Adding to this whole story, debate, worry, and conflicting reports is Britney’s decision to go dark on social media.
On social media, Britney issued a statement saying she didn’t mean to 'offend' people with her book.
“My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means!” Britney’s statement read, which can still be seen on X (formally Twitter).
“That was me then … that is in the past! I don’t like the headlines I am reading … that’s exactly why I quit the business four years ago! Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here! I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life! Either way, that is the last of it and s— happens!”
Then, she went dark on Instagram, deleting her account abruptly, adding to debate and concern for Britney.
However, this isn’t the first time Britney has deleted her Instagram account. She’s done it several times in the past when she needs a break.
Britney’s book The Woman in Me hits bookshelves on October 24.
