Kate Middleton is still taking her time returning to work after completing chemotherapy treatment last month, but when she does make appearances, she truly does make them count. Earlier this week, Kate met with a teen who is battling cancer herself, resulting in a moment at Windsor Castle that the girl described as a “massive shock.”

The royals found out about the teenager from a post her mom made online.
As People reported, a woman named Vicky Roboyna shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) all about her 16-year-old daughter, Liz Hatton, who has been told that she may not have much longer to live due to how aggressive her cancer is, and she’s trying to make as many of her photography dreams come true as possible.
“Liz is 16 and lives to take photographs. She has a rare and aggressive cancer which doctors have told her means she has between 6 months and 3 years to live,” her mom wrote in the post. “We hope every day for a lifetime for her but if we can’t achieve that we hope to create her a lifetime of memories. If we can make even one of her photography bucket list happen for her she will be beyond delighted.”
Prince William heard about Liz thanks to that post.
Someone from the London Air Ambulance Charity saw Liz’s mom posting about her daughter and told William, which led to her invitation to the palace to photograph an investiture that was led by the Prince of Wales.
But what Liz didn’t know was that there was another surprise for her at Windsor Castle.
Prince William and Kate surprised Liz by visiting with her personally after the ceremony.
While talking to BBC Radio 4, Liz said that seeing Will and Kate come back out to see her was a “massive shock.”
“Talking to them was amazing ‘cause it was like talking to anyone, like just a normal person,” she said. “There was no sort of grandeur about them, there was just humanity and kindness.”
It seems the excitement was mutual.
The royals also shared photos of their meeting with Liz on their official Instagram account, writing, “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. ❤️ W&C.”

There's no doubt that this meeting was personal for Kate.
After battling cancer herself this year, it must have been truly meaningful for Kate to have the opportunity to meet with — and give such an amazing experience to — a teenager who is going through treatment herself.
“Such a lovely, genuine and kind people,” Liz wrote of the royals on her Instagram Stories, via People. “I’m over the moon that my family and I had this experience.”
