Kate Middleton ‘Wasn’t a Fan’ of Meghan Markle From the Very Beginning

People may think that the nonexistent relationship between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle started after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the royal family, but that may not be the case. There have been many stories about the Princess of Wales not always being the most welcoming to her sister-in-law — including reports she even made her cry shortly before she married Prince Harry. In royal reporter Omid Scobie's latest book, Endgame, he dives into the interpersonal relationships of the royal family, including a revelation that Kate was never particularly fond of Meghan, even from the start.

In the book, Scobie explains that sources told him Kate "can be cold" to people she doesn’t like, and "wasn’t a fan" of Meghan, per People.

"She spent more time talking about Meghan than talking to her," Scobie wrote.

The two women were at very different places in their lives when they first met.

Scobie points out in the book that Kate and Meghan never had much in common, but their relationship wasn’t helped by the rift between Prince Harry and Prince William. Also, William and Kate were in a very different place in life at the time, having two young children at home and welcoming their third child, Prince Louis, weeks before the Sussexes got married.

"Still, for Meghan, who found much of her time as a working royal a lonely and isolated experience, there was a hope that Kate would be someone she could at least turn to for an encouraging word during her lowest points," he wrote in the book.

Kate just wasn't feeling it.

Scobie explained, "They were once both outsiders, middle-class women brought into the house of Windsor for unimaginably different lives. Kate, however, was uninterested in forming this kind of bond with Meghan."

And now, it may be too late for them to form that kind of bond at all. Not only is an entire ocean between them now that Meghan and Harry have relocated to California, but Scobie's sources said there is "no way [Kate] could ever trust them after all their interviews."

They have always been opposites.

In Meghan and Harry's Netflix docuseries that premiered last year, Harry & Meghan, Meghan recalled when she first met Kate, which shows how drastically different the two are.

"When Will and Kate came over and I had met her for the first time, they came over for dinner. I remember I was in ripped jeans and barefoot. Like I was a hugger, always been a hugger. I didn't realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits," she explained.

"There is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and you relax now," she said. "But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me."
