Kate Middleton’s Best Wimbledon Fashions

Wimbledon may be a tennis championship for the world's top players, but it's also the fashion championship for Kate Middleton, who always brings her style A-game to the event. The Princess of Wales enjoys all kinds of sports, but tennis seems to have a special home in her heart. Maybe it's because Wimbledon gives her a chance to combine two of her big passions: fashion and tennis. She's also a patron of the organization that hosts the tennis tournament each year, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Some of Kate's best Wimbledon looks over the years include designs by Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen, as well as repeat outfits from years prior. She loves both high-end fashion and recycling looks, and we can totally respect that.

In honor of this year's Wimbledon tournament, here are the best looks that Kate ever rocked to watch the matches from the stands.

Toned in a Tank

In 2011, the year she married Prince William, Kate got to enjoy one of the coolest (to her, probably) royal perks. The family has access to a special Wimbledon viewing box, and she got to see all the action from these prime seats. For the occasion, she wore a white pleated tank top set that perfectly showed off her toned arms.

The royal Wimbledon box seats quickly became the place to spot Kate in the summertime. In 2012, she attended the matches in a nautical sweater dress. Wearing a sweater in July sounds terrible to us, but England has much cooler summers than the one the US is having now. She appeared regal and sweat-free as always.

This teal and green sundress was a repeat wear for the Princess of Wales. She'd previously donned it for a trip to the Solomon Islands as part of a royal tour she and William took in 2012. Two years later at a 2014 Wimbledon match, she looked just as great in it. We love how she always recycles her wardrobe.

The one color that Kate tends to shy away from wearing is orange, but she did try out this orangey-red dress for an appearance at Wimbledon in 2015. Although she looked great, her player must not have been doing well at this moment, because both she and William seemed upset. At least her outfit was a winner!

Banana Yellow

In 2016, Kate recycled yet another royal tour look for a Wimbledon appearance. She first wore this banana yellow dress while visiting Australia and New Zealand in 2014. Yellow is one of Australia's national colors, so she — in classic Kate fashion — was honoring the country with her outfit choice. But it was too good a dress to just wear Down Under.

Edgy in Alexander McQueen

Look closely at this dress pattern, and you'll notice that there are skulls on it! That seems so the opposite of Kate's vibe, but the dress is an Alexander McQueen, and we know she loves the brand. Her wedding dress was a McQueen design — albeit without any skulls. The print on this dress is small enough, however, that you can't see the edgy designs from far away. It worked for Kate in 2016.

Floral Skirt

The next year, for the 2017 Wimbledon tournament, Kate went the opposite direction from her skull-covered McQueen dress. She wore a pretty white frock with a delicate flower print covering the skirt. It was a Catherine Walker piece, one of Kate's other favorite designers. We'd love to see her re-wear this look.

Polka Dot Pattern

Also in 2017, the Princess of Wales wore this black and white polka dot dress to see the tennis matches. The large size of the dot pattern totally reminds us of a similar red and white look once donned by Princess Diana. Kate's monochromatic outfit is a chic update on a dated '80s style of giant polka dots.

With a Flounce

A lot has been said about Meghan Markle's outfit from the 2018 Wimbledon tournament — but Kate's outfit deserves just as much attention. She sported a cream dress with a black polka dot pattern similar to her dress from 2017. But this outfit came with a little extra flounce in the pleats at her hip and neck. So cute!

Tennis White

All tennis players wear white at Wimbledon, and so did Kate when she attended the 2019 tournament. Her breezy, shirtwaist dress was perfect for a hot day of sitting and watching other people exert themselves. She paired the look with black pointy-toe heels, a matching belt, and sunglasses to keep the bright day from ruining her viewing experience.

Kate also wore this dark green button-front dress to Wimbledon in 2019. It's a Dolce & Gabbana design that Kate had altered. Originally, the outfit came with a giant pocket watch splashed across the front. The plain green version is 100 times better. Whether the choice to simplify the look was Kate or her stylist's, it was a good one.

Sky Blue

That same year, Kate got to step down from the stands and onto the Wimbledon lawn to hand out the trophies. As a lifelong tennis fan, it must have been so cool for her to get to meet iconic players such as Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic while standing on the grass. These are the kinds of royal perks she must adore. We also adore her pale blue dress for the occasion.

Beautiful Blazer

The princess missed Wimbledon in 2020 thanks to the lockdown, but she was back for the event and looking great in 2021. She stepped out in a chic structured blazer paired with a white top and a long navy and white polka dot skirt. Her Wimbledon fashion game is always on point, even after a hiatus.

Grass Green

Sadly for Kate, she then missed the majority of Wimbledon while being forced to self-isolate following a potential illness exposure. Fortunately, she was soon given the all-clear and was able to catch the finals. To celebrate the end of her isolation, she wore this pretty green dress that matched the Wimbledon lawn.

Pretty in Pink

On the final day of Wimbledon in 2021, Kate attended in a floaty pink dress paired with a matching face mask. At the end of the event, she went onto the court and handed out the trophies again. She must have been sad to miss most of her favorite annual sporting event, but at least she caught the most important part — the finals!

Rocking the Dots — Again

Polka dots really do seem to be what Kate gravitates towards when it's time to pick her Wimbledon outfit. In July 2022, Kate wore this blue and white dotted dress, which was made by Alessandra Rich, one of her favorite designers. She accessorized with Finlay sunglasses and a bag by Mulberry.

A Family Moment

The day of the Wimbledon Finals was a big deal for multiple reasons! Not only did Kate show up wearing this gorgeous emerald green dress by Roland Mouret, but she also brought along some special guests: her family! In fact, this was Princess Charlotte's first time attending a match at the tournament.

A Mint Moment

The dress she wore to finals wasn't the only time that Kate wore green to Wimbledon this year. She also paired this mint blazer, designed by Balmain, over a white dress with pleated skirt, looking like she means business and fun all at the same time.

Living in Lime

When Kate got to present a trophy to Marketa Vondrousova on the Wimbledon lawn in July 2023, she went with another green dress — this time, lime green. She wore this dress designed by Self-Portrait along with Gianvito Rossi heels and a pair of Victoria Beckham sunglasses.
