Katy Perry is going to find herself spending a lot of time in court. The singer and American Idol judge is engaged in a court case with an Australian mom and fashion designer that seems to be quickly spiraling out of control. The Aussie, whose name is Katie Perry, has been operating her fashion business under her name for more than a decade, but now, she's fighting Katy Perry (birth name Katheryn Hudson) for the rights to continue to use her given name for her company. But even after an April court ruling was made in favor of the lesser-known Perry, the pop star isn’t taking no for an answer.

The legal battle has been going on since 2009.
Speaking with Radar Online, fashion designer Katie Perry shared that she was "devastated" that the singer named Katy Perry is choosing to appeal the court’s decision of copyright infringement. She added that it feels like there’s "never an end in sight" to the whole ordeal.
She went to court in 2021.
Katie shared that she found out about Katy’s choice to appeal via email back in June. She expects to head back to court in November or December of this year. Katie shared that she believes Katy and her team are "trying to drain" her finances, hoping that eventually, she'll just give up fighting the case.
It seems to be a real 'David and Goliath' situation.
"It’s not in my nature. I’m a fighter and will always stand up for the underdog," Katie stated, adding that she refuses to stand down. She’s not just fighting this case to take back ownership of her own name, but also "to be a role model" for her two children, 7 and 4 years old.
"Not only have I fought [for] myself, but I fought for small businesses in this country, many of them started by women, who can find themselves up against overseas entities who have much more financial power than we do," she wrote on her website after the ruling in April 2023.
