Kelly Ripa Explains Why She’s No Longer Featuring Her Kids in Her Christmas Cards

For families who opt into sending out Christmas cards each year, the process of preparing the card itself can be a pretty stressful one. Before you sit down to address the envelopes, you have to design the card  — and even if you’re not taking new family photos to feature on it, you still have the task of figuring out which photo to use, which is no easy feat.

That kind of stress is exactly why this year, Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos have decided to take a different route, but their decision is a bit controversial.

Usually, their Christmas card features the whole family.

Mark and Kelly are proud parents to adult children Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22, and they typically make an appearance on the family’s Christmas card every year… until now, of course.

Instead of including the whole fam, Mark and Kelly selected a photo of themselves that was taken on the Live With Kelly & Mark set where they posed with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and everyone was dressed in their holiday best.

But why? The reason is pretty simple, when it comes down to it, as the couple said in a new interview with People.

“We’re tired of getting all the photos approved by our kids every year. They’re out,” Mark said, while Kelly added, “We’ve cut them out.”

Their kids weren’t necessarily pleased with the change.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Michael, Lola, and Joaquin felt a bit left out when they first found out they wouldn’t be included on the card this year.

“They complained that they’re not in the Christmas card this year. They feel very slighted, and [said] ‘How could you?'” Kelly said. But then, she told her kids, “I’m tired of waiting around for you to approve a picture. I’ve got to move.”

Can we really blame her for being over it?

They do plan to let their kids be part of the cards again in the future — under one condition.

Kelly and Mark conceded that they will be bringing the kids back into the holiday card fold in the future… when they have grandchildren to add to the photo, too.

“But until there’s grandchildren, they’re done,” Kelly said. “We’re just going to cut the kids out.”

Leave it to these two to always share exactly what’s on their minds!
