The pearl couture immediately made some people think of Kim's centerfold days.
Several people immediately got major flashbacks to season one of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, when a pearl-clad Kim posed for Playboy.
In addition to giving us a nude spread of Kim, it also gave us Kris Jenner's now infamous line, "You're doing amazing, sweetie."
We have to admit, we're seeing what they're seeing too.
Some critics noted that she didn't really stay on trend with this year's theme.
Although the official theme was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," some joked that the mother of four's outfit was a tribute to her 2007 nudes.
"Is this not an ode to her playboy cover shoot," one person tweeted.
Another person admitted that she looked amazing while still drawing comparisons to the infamous pictures. "Kim Kardashian's dress for the Met Gala was beautiful," the person tweeted. "She was paying homage to herself when she posed for Playboy."
Others asked if she was wearing the same jewelry.
The looks are so similar that one person even tweeted at the reality star to find out if she reused some of the props from her original photos.
"Is Kim Kardashian wearing her Playboy pearls to the met?" another person tweeted.
Of course, not everyone was critical of her outfit.
A bejeweled Kim made time to talk about her upcoming TV role.
Kim appeared oblivious of the connection between her high-fashion look and her past with the pearls as she happily answered questions about her upcoming role in American Horror Story.
Fans of the show weren't happy when a new teaser trailer dropped for the next season of the anthology horror series listing Kim as one of the stars.

She says she's been working with an acting coach.
It sounds like Kim is taking things seriously. "We start shooting my stuff at the end of this month," she told Variety. "But production has already started and I'm so excited."
The reality star sure does have a lot on her plate. Hopefully she takes some time out of her busy schedule to address curious fans who want to know whether she realized just how much of a stir those pearls were going to make.
