Kourtney Kardashian Opens Up About ‘Traumatic’ Emergency Fetal Surgery for the First Time

Kourtney Kardashian didn't exactly have an easy pregnancy with her youngest son, Rocky, who was born last year, and now, she's opening up about the worst of it. In the season five premiere of The Kardashians (which is now streaming on Hulu), Kourtney talked about the emergency fetal surgery she had to undergo toward the end of her pregnancy with Rocky and how the experience, which led to total bed rest, was "traumatic" for her.

'The Kardashians' is back for a fifth season.

Although of course we know the gist of what's happened in the famous family's lives since last season thanks to social media, now we're finally getting all the details. That includes the end of Kourtney's pregnancy with Rocky and a scary complication she faced along the way.

Something unexpected was discovered during what they thought would be a routine scan.

Because Travis was heading out on tour with Blink-182, Kourtney scheduled a home ultrasound so he and the kids could all see the baby.

The doctor doing the scan happened to be a high-risk doctor, and when "something caught his eyes" about the baby, he sent Kourtney to see a specialist.

Kourtney was facing a 'super rare' problem.

She didn't go into specifics, just noting that it had nothing to do with her age or anything she had done wrong. On the show, Kourtney described the surgery as "traumatic" and "terrifying," and Travis immediately left tour to be there for her.

"His Wifi was broken on the plane so the whole time he couldn’t get updates," she said.

She wasn't able to leave the house again for the rest of her pregnancy.

Kourtney explained that she had been put on strict bed rest orders until she went into labor because of how intense the surgery was on her body.

“There’s a hole in the amniotic sac from where they had to go in,” she said. “I’m not allowed to drive. I’m not allowed to stand for more than 20 minutes. I’m really not leaving the house.”

That must have been so scary.

In the end, Kourtney said she was glad she spoke up about this difficult time.

It sounds like she's heard from others who experienced the same complication who were afraid to talk about it.

“So many people don’t feel comfortable even telling their friends or family members because they’re like did they do something wrong,” she said.

Good for Kourtney for making other expectant moms feel less alone. We're so glad both she and Rocky are safe and sound!
