It feels like the entire world lost a good friend over the weekend. On Saturday, news broke that Matthew Perry had unexpectedly died at the age of 54, and now we have an update on the situation involving the former Friends star. Matthew's cause of death is still inconclusive and has been marked "deferred" following his autopsy as medical examiners have determined that further investigation is required, which at this point includes waiting for results of the toxicology scan to come back.

Matthew was found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home on Saturday.
TMZ was the first to report that Matthew had died of an apparent drowning at his residence. According to what sources have told the news outlet, earlier in the day, Matthew had played a two-hour round of pickle ball with a friend and had sent his assistant on an errand when he got home. When his assistant returned, he found Matthew unresponsive in a jacuzzi and called 911.
Now the medical examiner is sharing an update.

As CNN reported in the early hours of Monday morning, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has updated its online records to show that Matthew's cause of death has now been labeled "deferred," which happens when it cannot be definitively confirmed during the autopsy and further investigation is required.
In this case, it seems the "further investigation" the office is waiting on is the results of the toxicology report, which could take weeks to come back.
No 'illicit drugs' were found at Matthew's home.
Insiders have told TMZ that, despite Matthew's long history of addiction, no illegal drugs were found at the scene or elsewhere in his home. Police reportedly did find prescription drugs at his residence, though, including anti-anxiety drugs, anti-depressants, and medication to manage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD.
The toxicology report will be what determines what drugs, if any, were in Matthew's system at the time of his death.

One of his former costars reportedly believes his medication could have contributed to his death.
According to what a source close to Lisa Kudrow, who also starred in Friends as Phoebe, told the Daily Mail, she and others close to Matthew reportedly believe that one of the medications in his system "did not mix with the warm water" in the jacuzzi.
"He loved his outdoor hot tub and it's so eerie that his final post on Instagram was him alone in it," the source said. "Lisa and cast will all be attending his services. Lisa is also considering taking in his beloved dog Alfred."
So far, none of the 'Friends' cast has shared a public statement about Matthew's death.
Considering how close they all seemed to be during filming in the '90s and early 2000s and continued to be in the years since, it makes sense that they may want to grieve privately during this time.
Here's hoping that his closest friends and family members are able to take the time they need to heal from such an unexpected and heartbreaking loss.
