Since walking away from royal life five years ago – seriously, how has it already been that long? – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been largely absent from social media – until now. On Wednesday, the new year brought a new surprise: Meghan is back on Instagram with her own account, and her first post is all about welcoming in 2025. This is so exciting!

Meghan shared her first post on January 1.
On her new account – with the handle “@meghan” – she shared a black and white video that shows her on the beach, running toward the waves. Then, she stops, writing “2025” in the sand with her finger. At that point, Meghan runs off frame. It’s all a bit mysterious, especially because the video has no caption.
Unsurprisingly, Meghan's account is already pretty popular.
Even though she’s only been back on Instagram for about 24 hours, she’s already amassed more than 850k followers and counting. Although she has comments turned off of her post, the video itself has well over four million views, so it’s safe to say that plenty of people are very interested in what Meghan might share online.
The video was shot by Prince Harry.
According to People, Harry was the one behind the camera, which is pretty impressive – talk about an Instagram husband! The news outlet reported that they filmed the video at a public beach near their home in Montecito, and though people have been speculating that this account actually did belong to Meghan, this is the first time it’s been confirmed. She’s officially back, y’all!

Meghan is hoping to use her account as a way to connect with people.
The magazine also reported that Meghan is “excited to return to social media as a way to reconnect with communities around the world and share updates about the projects she’s working on, looking to lead by example in demonstrating the potential for social media to bring joy and positive connection.”
Judging by the following she has already, it looks like she’ll have no problem achieving that goal.
This update comes years after Meghan hinted she was returning to social media.
During an interview with The Cut in 2022, Meghan said she was already planning her return. At the time, she said, “Do you want to know a secret? “I’m getting back … on Instagram.”
As it turns out, she was telling the truth – but it seems like her plans might have been a bit more delayed than she thought they would be at the time. We can’t wait to see what Meghan posts next.
