Melania Trump defends abortion rights, a position that conflicts with her husband Donald Trump’s stance — and just one month ahead of the 2024 presidential election, she isn’t being quiet about it. In her upcoming memoir, Melania, which is set to be released on October 8, the 54-year-old former fashion model didn’t hold back her criticism on the government’s current restrictions on reproductive rights.

The Guardian apparently obtained an excerpt from the book.
The Guardian reportedly obtained an exclusive copy of the memoir ahead of its release. “It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” Melania reportedly writes.
“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” she adds.
Melania has supported abortion rights for a long time.
“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body,” she continued. “I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”
Though Melania has rarely spoken out about her political views, this position comes as a surprise to many, given that her husband is running on a Republican platform that takes an approach to abortion law that leaves it to a state-by-state case.

Here's what Donald had to say about his wife's position.
Donald told Fox News that he wanted his wife to follow her beliefs, NBC News reported. “We spoke about it, and I said, ‘You have to write what you believe. I’m not going to tell you what to do. You have to write what you believe,'” he said. “She’s very beloved. People love our former first lady, I can tell you that, but I said, ‘You have to stick with your heart.’ I’ve said that to everybody, ‘You have to go with your heart.'”
Melania released a video following the drop of the excerpt.
“Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard,” she said in the clip, seemingly promoting her book. “Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise when it comes to these essential rights that all women possess from birth. Individual freedom. What does ‘my body, my choice’ really mean?”
People reacted to her stance.
Some people celebrated Melania speaking out. “The absolute best! 🤍,” one person commented. “Melania, you need to vote for Kamala Harris🙏🙏💙💙🇺🇸🇺🇸 thank you for speaking the truth about women’s reproductive rights,” someone else wrote.
Some people, however, were not fond of her views, even suggesting that her video was generated by AI. “She hates her husband. Everyone knows it,” one person wrote. “I pray for the babies freedom !” another commenter wrote. “To not be in the womb growing at peace and then being slaughtered, safeguard the babies life!”
