Nikki Garcia Requests Full Custody of Son Matteo in Divorce From Artem Chigvintsev

Just days after Nikki Garcia filed for divorce from husband and Dancing With the Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev, we have an update on her filing. Nikki is requesting full custody of the couple's son, 4-year-old Matteo, and at the same time, she's issued her first statement since her divorce filing went public. This news comes after Artem was arrested on charges involving domestic violence at the end of August.

Nikki requested full custody in the divorce filing.

In court documents Nikki filed on Wednesday that were obtained by People, she requested sole legal and physical custody of Matteo, her only child with Artem. However, she did state that she would be willing to allow Artem visitation with their son.

She cited 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for their split.

Elsewhere in the filing, Nikki asked that the court terminate spousal support for both her and Artem.

Nikki listed their date of separation as August 29, which happens to be the same day that Artem was arrested and charged with corporal injury to a spouse.

She has also issued a statement on the proceedings.

At this point, it sounds like she's not planning to share too many details about what happens next, according to a statement issued by her rep to People.

"She continues to ask for privacy for her and her family at this time," the statement said.

So far, Nikki and Artem both appear to be laying low.

Neither half of the former couple has made any posts on social media since Artem's arrest, which took place just three days after they celebrated their wedding anniversary.

"Happy anniversary my love, can’t see my life with out you," Artem wrote in a post dedicated to Nikki. "You are my everything."

This can't be an easy time for their family.

But fortunately, Nikki has a strong family she can lean on during this time, including her twin sister, Brie. Here's hoping that they are able to have all of the privacy and the time they need as they navigate this difficult time.
