Paris Hilton Slammed for New Maui Vacation Pics With Carter Reum After Wildfire Tragedy

In the wake of the Maui wildfires in Lahaina, Hawaii, that left more than 100 people dead, some are calling for a stop to tourism for now, but when it comes to Paris Hilton, that message seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Paris, husband Carter Reum, and their son have been vacationing in Maui, and now that photos have surfaced of what looks like the family enjoying a carefree getaway, they're facing a whole lot of backlash on social media for choosing now to visit the island.

This week, photos of Paris in Hawaii have surfaced online.

In the photos, which were originally obtained by the Daily Mail, Paris, Carter, and baby Phoenix seem to be enjoying a fun family trip to end their summer. But knowing that they're just 30 miles away from where wildfires decimated a community, leaving so many people either dead or homeless, isn't settling well with people.

She is staying in a resort in Wailea.

Not only is she close to where the destruction happened, but the news outlet also is reporting that she arrived August 15, while the wildfires were still ripping through the area.

According to CNN, as of Monday, the death toll from the fires has risen to at least 114, and 850 people are still missing — not to mention the thousands of homes and businesses that have been destroyed, displacing many and leaving people without income.

Locals have been asking tourists to stay away from the area.

That includes the Hawaii Tourism Authority, which has asked that visitors avoid the western side of Maui for the time being and encouraged them to visit other parts of Hawaii instead.

"The Hawaii Tourism Authority urges visitors to REFRAIN FROM GOING TO WEST MAUI (including Lāhainā, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua) as a means of respect to the people and places that have been lost in Lahaina during this devastating tragedy. The impacted area of Lahaina remains off limits to the public as the search and recovery efforts continue," the organization shared in a statement.

People have been voicing their disgust online with Paris' vacation.

"Paris Hilton is vacationing in Maui at a resort 30 min from Lahaina. Imagine watching thousands of ppl lose their homes, loved ones, families etc and then expecting them to SERVE YOU DRINKS WHILE U FROLIC ON THE BEACH IN FRONT OF THEM OMG," one person tweeted.

Another person added, "So we're back to hating Paris Hilton again after seeing her vacation in Maui when their citizens barely recovered from the wildfires, right?"

Reportedly, Paris has been helping with relief efforts.

A source close to the heiress told People that Maui is close to Paris' heart and she has reportedly cut her trip short to help on a local level.

"It was initially a planned family trip, and she has been traveling to Maui since she was born. She has many friends and family there and it’s a second home for her," the insider said. "Her uncle’s restaurant in Lahaina burned down, so they decided to shorten their trip and go to see their family and help where they could. When they arrived, they gathered supplies, donated to the local shelters and people in need and made significant contributions."
