Thomas Kingston, a British financier who previously dated Pippa Middleton and was married to Lady Gabriella, died on February 25. Lady Gabriella’s father, Prince Michael of Kent, is Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin. Kingston was only 45, and his death, which happened while he was in Gloucestershire, England, visiting his parents, came as a "great shock" to his family. Now, the cause of his unexpected death has officially been confirmed.

His cause of death was described as 'traumatic.'
A spokesperson from the coroner’s office confirmed the cause of death to People: "The cause of death given was traumatic wound to the head."
Katy Skerrett, the senior coroner for Gloucestershire, explained that Kingston had lunch with his parents at their property before his father took the dogs for a walk.
"On his return, Mr. Kingston was not in the house," she shared, according to The Telegraph.
He was found by his parents.
Skerrett explained that Kingston’s father "forced entry into an outbuilding when he couldn’t gain entry. Mr. Kingston was found inside with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene. Emergency services were called. Police are satisfied the death is not suspicious."
The inquest has been postponed until a later date, People confirmed.
His family described him as an 'exceptional man.'
"It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother. Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family, and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing," read the statement released by Lady Gabriella and Kingston’s family.

Thomas and Pippa dated many years ago.
Kingston and Pippa Middleton dated until 2011 but remained friends even after they broke up. In fact, he and Lady Gabriella attended Pippa’s 2017 wedding to James Matthews, and they returned the favor in 2019 when it was Kingston and Lady Gabriella's turn to get married.
His loved ones don't appear to have seen this coming.
Kingston and Lady Gabriella tied the knot in May 2019 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, a year after Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s wedding. Harry was in attendance, as well as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Kingston and Lady Gabriella were last photographed on Valentine’s Day alongside Queen Camilla in London.
