Prince Harry Reportedly Looking for a New UK Home Because His Friends Won’t Visit the US

Prince Harry is looking for a new place to call home in the UK. Even though his home is now in the United States, Harry does return to his home country sometimes. But right now, he doesn’t have a regular place to stay, due to his contentious relationship with his family and the loss of the home gifted to him and Meghan Markle. And while he doesn’t spend much of his time in the country, he does occasionally have work obligations in the UK, and still maintains relationships with friends and some members of his family. There's also another problem with his current living situation in the US that could be contributing to his need for a new pad across the pond …

As the New York Post reported, insiders claim that Harry’s friends in the UK refuse to visit him in the US because of “rifts” they have with Meghan. Because he currently doesn’t have a permanent residence in England, he usually has to stay at hotels, and because of that, he’s looking to find a place to call home when he’s in the country.

Harry and Meghan were asked to vacate their former UK home last year.

Harry and Meghan were officially removed from the lease for Frogmore Cottage in June 2023 — a process that began in January of that same year, shortly after the release of Harry’s controversial memoir Spare. The couple had been gifted the lease to Frogmore by the late Queen Elizabeth after their 2018 wedding and thought they would always have access to it. But when they stepped down as working members of the royal family, they were asked to turn in the keys.

The loss of Frogmore Cottage meant Harry no longer had a home in the UK, which led him to make California his home base. In April, documents for a UK-based company founded by Harry listed his “new country/state” of residence as the United States. The date listed on the documents was backdated to June 29, 2023, which was when the couple officially vacated Frogmore Cottage.

Royal experts think Harry misses living in the UK.

Tom Quinn, a royal expert and commenter, claims that Prince Harry is “sad” that he doesn’t have a regular place to go when he’s in London. “As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK,” he told The Mirror. “Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”

The UK also doesn't provide security personnel for Harry when he visits.

“Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security,” Tom speculated, referring to the London High Court’s decision to strip Harry and Meghan of taxpayer-funded security.

In February, the judge of the High Court, Sir Peter Lane, ruled that it wasn’t unlawful to remove their security after they stepped down in 2020. Harry was also ordered to pay 90% of the UK Home Office’s legal costs for defending the court’s initial ruling.
