Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Just Talked to King Charles for the First Time in 6 Months

It looks like Prince Harry is potentially making an effort to mend the relationship he has with his father, King Charles. The Duke of Sussex, along with wife Meghan Markle, reportedly called the monarch on Tuesday for his 75th birthday. This comes after months of no contact between the father and son and happened even though Meghan and Harry reportedly weren't invited to England for the King’s birthday celebration this week.

Multiple news outlets reported that Harry would call his father for his 75th birthday Tuesday, marking a reported six-month streak of them not speaking, as a source told the BBC. In addition to speaking with his younger son, the monarch also spoke to Meghan. And the Telegraph reported that he even received a prerecorded video message of grandchildren Archie and Lilibet singing "Happy Birthday."

What seems like a simple phone call could actually be the start of something good.

The Telegraph claimed that the conversation, which was described as friendly and cordial, went so well that they decided to plan another one for next week, possibly marking a "turning point" in their fractured relationship. This is the first time Harry has spoken to his father since April, not long before the king’s coronation.

Charles was reportedly happy to hear from the Sussexes and his grandchildren.

"The King was extremely busy but is polite and loves his son and his grandchildren, and not so mean that he would not take a call on his birthday," a source told The Sun.

Despite making several trips to the UK, Harry hasn’t seen his father since the coronation in May. No one knows if they may have talked at any point during the festivities.

It seems there is still a lot of healing that has to happen on both sides.

"There is still a long way to go to mend the rift created over many years — and the deeper issues caused by allegations in the Netflix series and Spare are not healed with a phone call," the source said via The Sun.

Apparently, Charles isn’t taking reconciliation off the table, but it will not be an easy road for all involved.

The positive phone call comes after the Sussexes were allegedly not invited to Charles' 75th birthday celebration. The Sunday Times originally reported that Harry and Meghan chose not to attend the festivities, but they quickly squashed those rumors.

"In response to UK media headlines, there has been no contact regarding an invitation to his majesty’s upcoming birthday," their rep, Ashley Hansen, told the New York Post. "It is disappointing the Sunday Times has misreported this story."
