Prince William Thinks Kate Middleton’s Favorite Hobby Is ‘Crazy’ but She Doesn’t Care

People have all kinds of different interests, and that’s part of what makes the world such a special place. But when it comes to some of those interests, Prince William isn’t having it — at least, according to wife Kate Middleton. But it’s fine; even though she’s admitted that William thinks her favorite hobby is “crazy,” she’s not giving it up.

While appearing on the podcast The Good, the Bad, & the Rugby, on which Mike Tindall (husband to Zara Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter) is a cohost, Kate opened up about the activity she loves most: cold water swimming.

We’ve always known Kate was athletic, but this is hardcore! Though Kate’s episode of the podcast aired last year, it’s back in the headlines again as the weather is getting chilly.

Her husband isn't a fan.

Judging by what Kate said on the podcast, it doesn’t exactly sound like Will is going to be joining her in the water any time soon.

”Cold swimming – the colder, the better. I absolutely love it,” she said. ”Slightly to the point where William’s [saying] ‘You’re crazy’ and it’s dark and it’s raining. I will go and seek out cold water. I love it!”

It involves swimming outside in the winter, always in unheated pools or other bodies of water.  Sounds like a total adrenaline rush — and it totally makes sense why Will wouldn’t want to jump in, too! Still, according to Scientific American, it may come with health benefits when done safely, such as boosting someone’s mood, helping with pain relief, and even helping swimmers be more alert and attentive outside of the water.

She also opened up about being active as she grew up.

“I can always remember being physical, using our bodies, whether it’s walking, climbing the Lake District, in Scotland [or] swimming from a young age,” she said on the podcast. “[My parents] always encouraged us to be physically active and sporty and they always encouraged us into doing team sports and trying things.”

Will and Kate have always tried to encourage their children to be active, too.

From what Will and Kate have shared publicly about their children, it sounds like playing outside and joining sports teams is always encouraged. Last month, William shared an update on his oldest son’s latest athletic pursuits during an investiture at Windsor Castle, telling one honoree that George has taken up triathlons, according to The Mirror.
