Reese Witherspoon ‘Upset’ by Jim Toth Split, Never Saw Herself ‘Getting Another Divorce’

Fans were shocked when Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth announced last week that they were going their separate ways after more than a decade of marriage, but no one was more taken aback than Reese herself. Reportedly, Reese never thought she'd get divorced again, so life throwing her this curveball has been particularly difficult.

Reese and Jim announced their divorce on Friday.

They posted a joint statement to Reese's Instagram account sharing the news with the world.

"It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce," the statement read. "We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together."

Jim and Reese are parents to her youngest child, 10-year-old Tennessee James.

Reese is 'disappointed and upset.'

According to what a source close to the Big Little Lies star told People, this hasn't been an easy choice.

"She never saw herself getting another divorce," the insider said. "They love Tennessee and this is their focus. They will continue to co-parent amicably. There is no drama."

They fell in love quickly.

Reese and Jim got married in March 2011, and the insider said everything "moved quickly" at first.

"Reese was thrilled by his attention and excited to marry him," added the source. "They are two very different people though. Reese is headstrong and focused. Although very hard-working, Jim is more laidback."

It sounds like they both agreed this was the best thing for them.

"It's been very difficult for Reese to get to this point though. They both concluded this was right for them," the source added.

This is Reese's second divorce; she split from Ryan Phillippe in 2006 after welcoming children Ava and Deacon with him.

Divorce is never easy, even under the best of circumstances, but it sounds like it's not something this former couple has taken lightly.

It might not have been what Reese envisioned for her future, but hopefully, it will end up being what's best for everyone, including Tennessee.
