It's St. Patrick's Day, and everyone knows what that means βΒ it's time to wear green! Guess who definitely won't be getting pinched? The royals, because they wear green all the time and they look flawless doing it. In normal times, Kate Middleton and Prince William usually spend March 17 at the official Irish Guards St. Patrick's Day Parade, and she knows to come dressed head-to-toe in the emerald color. William has to wear his military regalia, but he fastens a sprig of shamrock to his outfit to stay on theme.
But Kate and Will aren't the only ones who can rock the green hue. Here are the best photos of the royal family βΒ from little Princess Charlotte on up to Queen Elizabeth βΒ wearing green. And even if St. Patrick's Day looks a little different this year (again), at least we can all throw on this color at home and browse through these pictures of the royals looking great in the color. We're green with envy just scrolling through these stylish designer duds.
Diana's Matching Coat & Hat
For one of her most iconic maternity outfits, Princess Diana went with a green coat dress and matching hat with dark green velvet accents. It already looked amazing when she wore it in the 1980s, but the look was classic enough for Meghan Markle to pull off an incredibly similar version decades later when pregnant with Archie.
Kate's Classic Coat Dress
Upholding Diana's coat dress legacy is Kate Middleton, who wears these almost everywhere. For St. Patrick's Day in 2014, the Duchess of Cambridge wore this green Hobbs coat dress. She loves a coordinating color scheme, so of course she had a matching green fascinator, shoes, purse, and belt to go with the coat.
Neon for the Queen
The Queen reportedly wears such brightly colored outfits so her adoring public can see her even when she's far away or in a crowd. It doubles as a great way for her security team to keep an eye on her. This neon green ensemble is one of her best and brightest. Her majesty wore it on her first engagement with Meghan Markle.
Chic Skirt
Meghan tends to have a more neutral wardrobe color palette, but she did mix some green in every once in a while. During an outing with Harry early in their marriage, she paired a green leather Hugo Boss skirt with a blouse by the brand & Other Stories. Unlike Kate, Meghan doesn't seem to like an all-matching outfit, so she varied her shades of green.
Bright Green
Is it just us, or does this dress have a kind of "mini golf AstroTurf" vibe to it? Don't get us wrong βΒ it's so cute and those stylish pockets make the outfit sing β but when we look at it we also think about putting greens. The princess paired the textured dress with black accessories that help the lime color really pop.
Country Style
Here's a throwback photo of Prince William and Prince Charles both wearing green. Because they're in the countryside, they're probably vacationing at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Usually the two future kings are always dressed in suits and acting formal, but they've let loose a bit here, and Will is even wearing a fun hat. Love to see it.
Charlotte's Christmas Coat
We can tell Kate Middleton dressed Charlotte for the Christmas service in 2019, because she put her daughter in a green coat dress just like the ones Kate likes to wear. And to coordinate with her daughter, Kate wore green heels, a green hat, and carried a green clutch. It's gonna be hard for her when Charlotte starts picking out her own clothes.
Meghan Markle's Shirt Dress
The Duchess of Sussex's whole South Africa tour wardrobe was on point, but especially this army green shirt dress. It's chic, casual, and comfy all at the same time. It's from Room 502, and a version of the dress is still available for $455.
Prince Harry in Army Green
Meghan's olive shirt dress reminds us of when Prince Harry wore a similar green shirt while on a tour of the Caribbean in 2016. It's photos like this that remind us how jealous we are that Meghan is married to Harry. Between the shirt with those rolled-up sleeves and the sunglasses, he's just a lot to take in βΒ in the best way.
Luxe Lace
Kate has a knack for picking out great formalwear, such as this green lace gown she wore to the National Portrait Gala in 2017. It's a Temperley London design βΒ one of Kate's most used labels in her wardrobe. Because the princess likes to recycle her outfits, we hope this one makes a comeback soon.
Prince George in Camo
What's this? Prince George in a T-shirt? In a camo T-shirt, no less? We're so used to seeing the future king in his school uniform or shorts and kneesocks that it's kind of shocking to see him dressed like an actual 7-year-old. He's already so grown up, and we can totally see Prince William's features in his face.
Camilla's Mint Look
When it comes to the color green, the Duchess of Cornwall prefers a pastel version. Camilla owns several mint dresses, including this one that she's already worn twice. She first wore it for Prince Charles' 70th birthday celebration, and she recycled the look for the 2019 Trooping the Colour. She just really likes a spring mint wardrobe moment.
Chic & Flowy
For an Invictus Games reception, Meghan went with this green patterned dress. The breezy look actually has cutout shoulders, but the duchess covered up with a blazer for the more formal event. Altogether, this outfit is emblematic of Meghan's ability to always elevate her effortless sense of style.
The All-Green Ensemble
Matching sets are really having a moment in fashion, but Kate was ahead of the trend. She wore this all-green pants and shirt set in February 2020, and when we look closely we can see that she also matched the look with emerald earrings and green-accented shoes. The princess must be living for how trendy monochrome is right now.
Beatrice in a Belted Dress
Although Princess Beatrice doesn't get as much media attention, she's every bit as stlyish as the other royal women. Take this green camo dress and belt moment, for instance. She donned the look for a 2013 trip to Berlin, and she looked stunning. We'd love to see the inside of her closet, because it must be filled with gems like this.
Fashionable Floral
This is more than just a green dress with a floral pattern. The flowers are actually poppies, which are a symbol of remembrance, and Kate wore the dress to mark the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. She may never have gotten to meet her mother-in-law, but Kate does what she can to keep Diana's legacy and memory alive.
Matching With Mom
Speaking of Princess Diana, we love this color coordination between her and Prince Harry in 1988. She wore a chic green dress with wide white lapels and a matching wide-brimmed hat. Harry joined her in a white shirt and green suspenders. Apparently mother-child coordination isn't just a Kate thing β it's a royal thing.
Kate Middleton's Ireland Dress
Green is one of the colors in Ireland's flag, so Kate made sure to mix a lot of the hue into her wardrobe for her early 2020 tour of the country. She always goes out of her way to incorporate local designers or symbolism in her international outfits, and this trip was no different. Her glittery green dress was perfect for a tour of the Guinness storehouse.
'70s Vibes
Another dress the duchess wore during the Ireland tour was this green patterned one. It's an Alessandra Rich gown and a bit funkier than what Kate usually wears. Everything from the pattern to the turtleneck to the bell sleeves just screamed 1970s. We love a vintage-style look on the Duchess of Cambridge.
Meghan's Last Royal Appearance
What a way to go out, huh? For Meghan and Harry's last event as working royals, they attended the 2020 Commonwealth Day service. Meghan showed up in a gorgeous emerald dress from Emilia Wickstead with a matching cape and netted fascinator. She really said to the UK, Look what everyone is gonna miss out on now.
