Ken and Barbie may be an iconic couple, but to hear Ryan Gosling tell it, there's no pair better suited to one another than him and Eva Mendes. The actor offered a rare glimpse into his personal life during a recent interview, describing how and when he knew Eva was the one.

The normally private star opened up during a chat with GQ.
Ryan explained how working with Eva while filming The Place Beyond the Pines in 2012 completely changed everything for him. "I wasn't thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn't want to have kids without her," he told the magazine.
It probably didn't hurt that he got a pretty good look at what their life would look like while on set.
He liked how he felt when he was acting with her.
The characters may have been doomed in the end, but Ryan says that parts of their relationship gave him something to strive for.
"And there were moments on The Place Beyond the Pines where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn't really want it to be pretend anymore," he recalled. "I realized that this would be a life I would be really lucky to have."
Ryan and Eva now share two daughters.
In 2014, the pair welcomed their daughter Esmeralda. Two years later, they grew their family again by having a second daughter, Amada.
Shortly after expanding their family, Ryan made the decision to step back from his work in Hollywood and focus more on being at home. "It's a job, and I think in a way that allows me to be better at it because there’s less interference," he explained of his choice to spend less time on set.
Now that his kids are older, he's making his Hollywood comeback.
Ryan is getting plenty of attention for his role as Ken in the new Barbie movie. While not all of the attention has been necessarily good — the 42-year-old was positively roasted on Twitter for playing the love interest of the beloved doll — Ryan is excited to be back on the silver screen.

Given how little the couple likes to talk about their relationship and how unlikely it is we'll ever get to see them together on screen again, we really appreciate getting this little tidbit about how their love came to be.
Hopefully their kids appreciate learning a bit about how their parents fell in love as well.
