Selena Gomez must face quite a few strange comments and questions from strangers — after all, she’s been in the spotlight since she was a kid. But this one might be on a totally different level!
After Selena shared a video of herself without makeup on her Instagram Stories, she was forced to field questions about her “mustache,” leading the Only Murders in the Building star to explain a health condition that she’s been dealing with lately.
It all started with Selena’s bare-faced video.
There has been a lot of chatter among fans (and trolls) online about Selena possibly having a mustache — despite the fact that facial hair can actually be pretty common for women to have. And after she was asked directly if she had shaved her mustache, Selena decided to give her followers the answers they’d clearly been looking for.
The good news? She knew exactly why they would ask her that, and she had a response ready and waiting.
Fortunately, she didn’t seem to have a problem addressing the questions.

In a video she shared on her Instagram Stories, staying totally bare-faced, Selena was laughing as she tried to explain what happened.
“Someone made me laugh because they asked me — they’re like, ‘how do you shave your mustache?'” she said, barely able to finish her sentence because she was cracking up. “And I was like, ‘I totally get it.'”
Selena went on to reveal that she has melasma, a skin condition that causes darker patches to appear on your body and face because of an overproduction of melanin that can be triggered by hormones, medications, sun exposure, and sometimes, even certain skincare products.
“It’s from the sun, so you all have to obviously wear sunscreen,” she said. “It’s actually not [a mustache], it’s my melasma, and I take care of it and treat it, but yeah, it’s there.”
Still, fans are defending her anyway.
Though Selena obviously didn’t mind answering the question, fans have chimed in on X, coming to Selena’s defense.
“She handled that with so much ease,” one fan wrote in a post on X. “I’m usually the girl who laughs it off after checking the mirror one last time.”
And we do have to give her props for how gracefully she handled the situation. Sometimes, you really do just have to laugh.
