‘Fearless’ Shannen Doherty Took a ‘Bucket List’ Trip to Italy With Her Oncologist

Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty is checking items off of her bucket list as she continues to battle stage 4 breast cancer. Amid her fight with the disease that she recently shared has spread to her bones, Shannen took a trip to Italy with her oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Piro, who helped her make the most of her time in Europe. And now, she's sharing all of the details in a new episode of her podcast, Let's Be Clear With Shannen Doherty.

Shannen shared the details of her trip on her latest podcast episode.

Shannen revealed that it was actually her doctor's idea for her to join his family on the trip, and after being both her oncologist and her friend for so many years, it looks like he knows her pretty well.

"You invited me on this amazing yacht with your family and I got to go to Italy with you, which was like bucket list. By the way, you knew it was on my bucket list. I mean you called me and you said, 'It's kind of bucket list, Shannen.' I was so excited," she said.

Her doctor called her 'fearless.'

"And she was just, I mean she's incredible, jumping off of every level of the yacht. Even the highest. Shannen is fearless, she truly is," Piro said.

Shannen added, "That's the amazing thing. You jump off the highest point of this enormous yacht and you go to climb back on. I got scared of the jellyfish, so I went the long way and the dangerous way and that's when I gave myself that big bump on my leg."

Shannen has been battling cancer for years.

After first being diagnosed in 2015, Shannen went into remission for years before she found out in 2020 that her cancer had progressed. Back in June, Shannen shared that her cancer has spread to her brain, giving her Instagram followers a peek at her journey as she got fitted with a radiation mask.

In November, Shannen revealed that her cancer had spread to her bones.

During an interview with People, Shannen said that as she waits to find a new clinical trial that she can hopefully be a part of, she's living her life to the fullest.

“People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work," she said via the magazine. "They put you out to pasture at a very early age — 'You’re done, you’re retired,' and we’re not. We’re vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward."

She still believes that her 'greatest memory is yet to come.'

"I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you’re just more aware of everything, and you feel so blessed," she told the magazine. "We’re the people who want to work the most, because we’re just so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here."

How amazing that Shannen got to experience that trip to Italy with someone who has been so important in her life. May this just be the start of checking off many more items from her bucket list.
