Sophia Richie has big plans for 2024. The model, influencer, and sister of Nicole Richie, revealed in a new interview that she’s pregnant with her first child. Less than a year after marrying Elliot Grainge, the two are now embarking on the next step in their relationship.
Having her first child is certainly a great way to start a new year, and no doubt brought a lot of excitement to the pair. Sofia will certainly be quite a fashionable and cool first-time mom.

Sofia has been keeping her pregnancy a secret for months.
Sofia casually dropped that she’s been keeping her pregnancy under wraps for a few months in a new interview and photo shoot with Vogue. In the photos, Sofia proudly shows off her bump in a series of designer outfits.
“I found out very, very early,” she told Vogue. “She’s growing pretty fast, so [the due date] is a bit up in the air.”
The couple already know the baby's sex.
Sofia is already quite firmly in the second trimester, and shared that she and Elliot are expecting a baby girl.
“I love the YouTubes and the TikToks — even before I was talking about getting pregnant — of gender reveals, so we had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink,” she explained.
“She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together. We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl, too.”
They had been casually trying to get pregnant since their wedding.
Sofia revealed that she and Elliot had been casually trying to get pregnant since April, which is also the same month they married. She explained that she had been feeling off during Milan Fashion Week, so she took a pregnancy test before a night out. Elliot is the one who went to CVS to purchase the pregnancy tests.
“We spoke the whole way on the phone. And when he came home, he’s such a sweet guy he always wants to protect my emotions and expectations, so he kind of sat me down and said, ‘If these are negative, don’t be upset. Our moment will come.’ When we turned over all three tests at the same time they were all positive,” she explained.
Sofia also shared how the couple told their parents the good news.
Because of how early in her pregnancy she was (four weeks), she and Elliot only told their parents at first.
“I told everyone that I had bought them a gift from Milan Fashion Week,” Sofia shared. “Everyone was like ‘Ooooh Hermès!’ But then they opened it and it had all three of the pregnancy tests [in it]. That’s how we told all of our parents. Watching their reaction go from like, ‘I’m about to get an expensive present’ to like ‘I’m about to get a grandchild’ was really sweet.”

She wants her daughter to have the option to be private.
Even though her baby girl won’t be here for a few more months, Sofia is already thinking about the kind of mom she’ll be. “I want to raise a smart, kind person,” she said.
“I want to be involved, but not too involved. I need to find that balance and groove. I want my child to be a child, I’m not going to publicize my child on Instagram. I don’t plan to take that approach because I want my kid to have the option to do what she wants with her life. If she wants to be a private person, I want her to be able to make that choice, and if she wants to be a public person, she can make that choice for herself.”
