It feels like breakups are in the air right now. After seven years of marriage, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are getting divorced. The official announcement comes after Sofia was spotted celebrating her 51st birthday in Italy sans wedding ring … or her husband.

The couple chose to release a statement sharing the sad news.
The couple released a statement exclusively to Page Six on Monday that read as follows:
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
According to a source, "Sofía and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future."
The rumors have been brewing for a while.
Observant fans noticed that there may be trouble in paradise when Joe wished Sofia a very trite message for her birthday.
“¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!” he wrote alongside a grainy photo of the two celebrating a previous birthday.
People instantly knew something had to be amiss, especially because he wasn’t with Sofia on her Italy trip.
Fans immediately began voicing their concerns.
"Something is off. Cold message for her and has two stories about his dog’s birthday. And sofia has not even said thank you," one commenter wrote.
"Am I the only one who doesn’t like the way it sounds? 'Sofia' … not even 'My love, My beloved wife,'" another person added.

Sofia may have alluded to the split earlier.
Sofia is living it up in Italy on vacation with her friends for her 51st birthday. She has been posting snaps of her trip almost daily. A source told Page Six that initially her friends tried to explain Joe’s absence but have stopped. "No one out there with her is even attempting to pretend that it’s not over. It’s over. It’s done."
Only one of her posts alludes to her impending divorce.
"When life gives u lemons u come to Italy to squeeze them," she wrote, sharing a snap of her finishing what looked like a delicious meal.
Neither of them is rushing to delete their relationship's online presence.
The couple has yet to scrub each other from their social media accounts. Joe's lackluster birthday post is still on his account, as are several other recent snaps, including a post for Mother’s Day.
Sofia's most recent snap of the couple is a throwback post to one of their trips to Italy ahead of her trip this year.
They married in 2015 after being set up by Sofia’s Modern Family costar Jesse Tyler Ferguson in 2014. In a 2020 interview with People, Joe shared one of the main reasons their relationship worked.
"I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me," he said at the time. "And we’re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves. I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you don't let go of it."
