Wendy Williams Has Been Diagnosed With Aphasia & Frontotemporal Dementia

If you’ve been wondering about what happened to former talk show host Wendy Williams, answers are coming. Ahead of the release of her documentary, Where is Wendy Williams?, her team has released a statement announcing that Wendy has been diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, which would explain her disappearance in recent years. This is notably the same neurodegenerative disease diagnosis actor Bruce Willis received last year.

Wendy underwent medical testing in 2023 because of the struggles that 'presented significant hurdles' in her life.

“As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema as well as other significant challenges related to her health,” her team shared in a media release, adding that “many have speculated” about her health after she “began to lose words, act erratically,” and have financial troubles.

She hopes that her diagnosis helps to raise awareness for the diseases.

“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances,” the statement continued.

Despite her illness, she's still living her best life.

According to the statement, Wendy “is still able to do many things for herself” and is in good spirits as she is and “receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed.”

Wendy is the subject of an upcoming documentary.

Wendy has been in a care facility since 2023 and is the subject of the upcoming documentary Where is Wendy Williams? on Lifetime. The documentary, which was filmed between 2022 and 2023 and is set to premiere on February 23, will go more into detail about the talk show host’s struggles, including her problems with alcohol.

There are many layers to her story.

She has remained largely out of the spotlight in recent years because of her alcohol and health issues, and as a result of a New York State court decision, Wendy has had a legal guardian appointed for her. Her family claims the guardian is the only one with full access to Wendy — she can contact them, but they can’t contact them. They say they weren’t included in the decision to appoint Wendy with a legal guardian.

With everything that’s happened, it’ll certainly be interesting to see her finally tell her own story.
