If your kids were ever a fan of Blippi, there’s a good chance that you know exactly who Meekah is — Blippi’s purple wearing best friend. Today, she’s played by Cashae Monya, but when Meekah first arrived on the scene, she was portrayed by Kaitlin Becker, who walked away from the franchise in 2024.
And now that there has been some distance between her and the Blippi universe, Kaitlin is opening up about what it was really like to film the popular children’s series and why she’d never return, even for $1 million.
Kaitlin said she dealt with a lot of ‘lies’ while working on Blippi.
While appearing on the Flightless Bird podcast, Kaitlin opened up about her time on Blippi, admitting that she didn’t miss working on the show at all. Things went well at first, but it sounds like it didn’t take long for it to become a toxic situation for her.
“There were a lot of things,” she said on the podcast. “There was a lot of miscommunications. There was a lot of lies. Things that I was just like, ‘This is not how I work, and this doesn’t feel good.’ Especially when you’re making something for kids.”
She added, “I was constantly disappointed, and that’s exhausting, and it was hard. It was getting hard to show up to set and be this energetic positive character when I just got off of a frustrating phone call with a producer.”
She wasn’t impressed with the way she was recast, either.
Before Kaitlin left the show, Blippi added a second Meekah, who is played by Cashae. To her, it felt “racist” of the producers to assume that just because she and Cashae are both Black, families would think they were the same character even though they “look completely different.”
“When I first met her, before she signed a contract and they had her visit set, I was like ‘What?’ [She’s] five inches shorter than me, different skin tone, like very, very different,” she said. “And I was like, ‘How do they think this is OK?’ This is feeling a little racist. Are we expecting families to just think that all Black girls look the same?”
So when the time came for her to renew her contract, the answer was a big no, and at the time, she told her lawyer she would have turned down an offer for $1 million — that’s how done she was.
“I was just very sure, and it was the shock of a lifetime to everyone,” she said.
Kaitlin announced she was leaving her role in early 2025.
She explained that as much as she loved her time as Meekah, she was excited to start a “new chapter.”
“I want you to know that you are the reason I signed contract after contract after contract,” she told her Instagram followers. “Connecting with parents and hearing from your kids made this job one of the most special experiences of my life.”
