It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day communication with our significant other, like who's picking up the kids today and who needs what from the grocery store in order to cook dinner tonight. As all couples who have been together for a while know, the flame can sometimes fade due to the fast pace of real life. But there's nothing that can ignite that flame to glow brighter faster than a sweetly surprising handwritten love note.
We often forget that before there were text messages, emails, AOL Instant Messenger (RIP), or other forms of instant communication, there were good ol' handwritten love notes. From Elizabeth Taylor to Winston Churchill, people have been sending their lover doting messages when they were many miles apart and without cell service because, duh, it didn't exist yet. Love notes have spanned history, but will always give us butterflies in our stomachs.
Even today, they reign over any heart emoji–filled text message. They're personalized by nature, take time and effort to make, and are also so dang sentimental.
With that being said, here are 22 love notes between couples that will give anyone the warm and fuzzies — or at least the giggles. From notes we wouldn't dream of showing to our mother to sweet letters anyone would want to hold on to forever, there's a little something in here for everyone. Romance is so not dead.
