20 New Year’s Eve Party Foods That Are Keto-Friendly

Before New Year's resolutions are made, gym or group fitness studio memberships are contemplated, and fresh, crisp new calendars, filled with blank days and possibilities galore, are opened, there is plenty of celebration left to be had. New Year's Eve presents the opportunity to go completely wild — once the LOs are in bed, of course — hitting the town to join friends, indulge in delicious eats, or party on the dance floor. A just as, or perhaps even more, delightful way to go on the last night of the year: cozying up at home, counting down to midnight while wearing the comfiest clothes and sipping champagne or hot cocoa. Basically, there is no wrong way to ring in a new year.

And, in the United States, there really isn't one type of food or meal that's considered traditional to enjoy on New Year's Eve. According to History.com, people often choose meals and snacks that are thought to bring good luck for the coming year.

For instance, in Spain and several other Spanish-speaking countries, people eat a dozen grapes, which symbolize their hopes for the 12 months ahead. And they do this just before the clock strikes 12. And the site points out that various parts of the world believe New Year's dishes should include legumes, which resemble coins and could bring forth financial success. In Italy, lentils are the go-to and in the Southern US, black-eyed peas show up in dishes like Hoppin' John.

In Cuba, Austria, Hungry, and Portugal, people see pigs as symbols of progress and prosperity (which is interesting for 2019, especially, as it will be the Chinese Year of the Pig!). For that reason, they'll enjoy dishes made from pork. Ring-shaped cakes and pastries are popular foods for New Year in the Netherlands, Mexico, and Greece.

No matter which cultural traditions families want to enjoy as the ball drops, plenty of delightful party-friendly dishes can be made Keto-friendly. Here are 20 yummy, low-carb options for New Year's Eve.
