Maid of Honor Helps Bride Scam Bridesmaids Out of Hundreds To Pay for Her Gown

There is no end to the thousands of bridezilla horror stories out there, but a recent tale of a bride and her maid of honor scamming her bridesmaids out of money has recently taken the cake. The sneaky duo used the good faith of their bridal crew to take some of the money they had sent to cover the supposed price of their bridesmaids dresses to go toward other bills, before one of their bridesmaids figured out their cold plot.

One of the bridesmaids recently shared the story online, relaying how she had been scammed by a friend, and it's seriously low.

In a post that was originally shared on Facebook but republished on Reddit, the anonymous bridesmaid explained the ordeal. She shared that a few years ago, she was one of six people asked to be a bridesmaid for her friend's wedding, not including the maid of honor.

The bride had picked a pricy dress for her bridesmaids to wear, which was a stretch for the bridal party who were either in college or had recently graduated, but still, they agreed to pay the $400 each for their dresses and allowed the maid of honor to charge the total fee on her credit card, which they would pay back.

"None of us minded, especially since she was going to let us pay her back in installments if we needed. I definitely needed," she wrote.

But her trust in the bride was quickly tarnished when she went to pick up her dress and realized that the price was $200 — not $400 like the bride had told her.

"When I confronted the MOH about it, she spilled the beans," she continued. "Apparently, the bride and the MOH plotted together to charge us double to help pay for the bride's dress. I let the rest of the bridesmaids know and four of us dropped out of the wedding immediately."

Despite blaming the bride for secretly getting her closest friends to help pay for her gown, some people thought the bridal boutique was also being shady.

"I hope the bridesmaids share that story on Yelp– a business shouldn’t ever be this shady," one commenter wrote. "As for the bride….that would be her in my rear view mirror as I drove far far away from her."

"Wooooooow. I feel like the shop was a little shady too though. How is it possible that they never mentioned the cost to any of the six bridesmaids?" asked another.

Most people were shook at the bride and her MOH's shady business move.

"Oh that's grounds for dropping that 'friend' like a hot potato forever," one commenter wrote.

"Oh wow nothing saying I consider you my closest friends more than scamming you out of money," added another commenter.

"What the actual (expletive)?! Who uses their friends as an ATM to help pay for their wedding dress?" wrote a third. "I get pretty disgusted that people try to use their wedding to cash in at all, it is so disturbing. In this era, almost everyone lives together and has the stuff they need to start a life. That is where the tradition of gift giving came from. But this… not even on the spectrum."

We have to agree that this bridesmaid doesn't need friends like these.
