It's the holiday season. But a global pandemic is still raging on. While that does mean that the holidays will look different, and we shouldn't risk spreading COVID-19 and choose to get creative to celebrate the holidays whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or New Year's, we can still get festive and make the season magical for our kids and honestly ourselves.
How? Well one of the easiest ways (and one of the safest ways) to celebrate with an old holiday tradition is by wearing ugly, or in this case, hilarious holiday sweaters — a trend that has taken our culture by storm, from adults to babies. They're comfy and can be worn while at home, around the house and even on Zoom. We found hilarious ones to wear this year and goodness knows, we all need the smile.
Darth Vader Merry Sithmas
Star Wars fans will get a kick out of this Darth Vader-themed holiday sweater. It has Darth front and center of the sweater with a Santa hat, surrounded by the movie's symbols, which in itself is hilarious, but the back of the outfit says Merry Sithmas, for good measure.
Grumpy Cat
Grumpy Cat is sadly no longer with us, but her adorable grumpy spirit lives on. Her legacy carries on in this sweater, in particular, that turns the Grumpy Cat memes into fashion. It features Grumpy Cat herself and reads "Dashing through the NO."
Merry Fieri Christmas
Guy Fieri is either loved or hated, but no matter how one feels about him, the Food Network star makes and has the funniest memes made about him — including this one, which has been turned into a festive holiday sweater. It has Guy's face surrounded by flames and says "Have a Merry Fieri Christmas."
Jiu-Jitsu
We really can't exactly say why we find this sweater so funny, but we do. Maybe it's the complete randomness of a holiday sweater that says jiujitsu with two people actually partaking in jiujitsu fighting on the front. Happy Holidays, guess!?
All I Want for Christmas Is Baby Yoda
Baby Yoda has taken the world by storm over the last few years. He's adorable and part of the Star Wars fandom, so it makes sense the character is so popular. Now he can be on holiday sweaters like this one which is more cute than funny but we love it and it's true: All we want for Christmas is Baby Yoda, too.
There's Some Hos in This House
Get the mind out of the gutter! This hilarious "quotable" sweater plays on Santa and the Cardi B and Meg the Stallion song "WAP," and yes, that is possible and it's been done here: It reads "There's some hos in the house." Meaning Ho Ho Hos. Not the other kind. wink Get it?
Michael Scott 'That's What She Said'
The Office is beloved by so many. It's was a quirky show that starred Steve Carell as weird manager Michael Scott. He has a joke where after sexual statements he says, "That's what she said." Of course, it's now a holiday sweater along with Michael himself, because why not?
Tiger King
It may seem like a million years ago but the Tiger King documentary came out in 2020 on Netflix. The jokes and memes that came from it were glorious, and that's what makes this hilarious holiday sweater so fun. It's based on the "I'm never going to financially recover from this" quote from the Tiger King himself.
Leonardo DiCaprio Django Laughing Meme
Speaking of memes, one of the more recent popular ones is definitely the Leonardo DiCaprio shade-laughing image (from the movie Django Unchained) that's used to throw shade at things. Now it can be on a sweater this holiday season!
Lit Llamas
Llamas are adorable animals, but they just look hilarious. Cartoon versions of them are even funnier, especially when they're wrapped in Christmas lights like on this ASOS sweater. It's chic, too. We have to admit it's hard not to smile while looking at this one.
Elf, I Know Him!
It isn't the holiday season without watching a holiday movie. There are old-school classics (think, It's a Wonderful Life) and then there are modern classics, like Elf. Behind Mean Girls it has to be one of the most quoted movies of our day, one of those quotes is on this sweater.
Lawn & Order Four Seasons Sweatshirt
Most of us will never forget that bizarre press conference by Rudy Giuliani outside of the Four Seasons Landscaping. It took over the internet, which pretty much means it has to be immortalized as a holiday sweater.
Merry Pugmas
Pugs are great, and pug puns are some of the best puns we know of. That's why we love this "Pugmas" holiday sweater. It's simple but super funny with the play on words and the image of the pug dressed up as a reindeer. 'Tis the season!)
Happy Birthday Jesus Christmas Sweatshirt
For a more straightforward Christmas sweater we cannot recommend this one enough. It wishes Jesus Happy Birthday, which isn't wrong if one is Christian, but having it scrawled out on a big holiday sweater makes it quite humorous. The cake helps, too.
Highly Koalified
Is it obvious that we love a good pun? Animals puns to be exact. Why not? They're just hilarious and this "Highly Koalified" sweater fits the bill. It's also not directly holiday related, but the koala has a Santa hat so there it is!
Jingle Bell Rock
This one made us actually laugh at loud. It's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. And the shirt says "Jingle Bell Rock," which combines the two greats — a classic Christmas song and a great American icon. Plus, The Rock is wearing a Santa hat. Who wouldn't want to wear that around?
Happy Challah Days
Holiday sweaters are overwhelmingly Christmas sweaters, but we found some Hanukkah ones to give love to the Jewish people out there who want in on the silly sweater fun. This "Challah Days" bread one is the perfect find.
Ugly Sloth
Animals are holiday sweaters are always a good idea. The only issue that we have with this one is that it is calls the adorable sloth "ugly" but other than that, we find it hilarious. And it's also wearing a cute Santa hat!
Snoopy Christmas Wreath
Peanuts arguably do the holidays better than anyone else so it makes sense to include this Snoopy holiday sweater with a wreath on Snoopy's snoot, er, nose. It's just adorable and people may not laugh at loud when they see it (or will they?) but they'll definitely smile.
