One day, a woman decided to check her bathroom scale’s memory “out of curiosity.” In doing so, she made an upsetting discovery: Her husband appeared to be cheating. The woman “didn’t want to jump to conclusions,” but to her, the suspicious weigh-ins on the bathroom scale seemed like “more than just a glitch.”
After midnight on a day in June, someone weighed in at 120 pounds — twice. Although that might not seem overtly problematic, the woman’s husband never weighs in at 120 pounds and neither does she.
The fact that her husband has a history of cheating didn’t help ease her mind.
Based on her post shared on Reddit, the woman had reason to be suspicious of her husband. According to her, they were spending some time apart due to his “past cheating.” While separated, her husband has been staying at the family’s condo, and the suspicious weigh-ins led the woman to think her husband might’ve had some guests over.
She didn’t confront him.

Describing herself as “shaken,” the woman didn’t mention her discovery to her husband because he has “never taken accountability” for his infidelity. “I also want to protect my peace and not jump to conclusions,” the woman explained. “But deep down, I can’t shake the feeling that someone was there.”
Despite her silence, the discovery has been “eating away at” her. She asked Redditors to confirm her suspicions. “What would YOU conclude?” she asked. “Can a digital scale do something like this on its own? Or is this a clear sign that someone else was in my home when I wasn’t supposed to have company?”
People praised her ‘sleuthing’ and said she’s not ‘paranoid.’
Overall, Redditors didn’t think the woman was jumping to conclusions. Some suggested that yes, her husband probably had someone over at the condo — but wondered why she even cared if they were separated.
“Why are you shaken?” one person questioned, while also confirming the woman’s fears. “Yeah a girl probably weighed herself and he probably cheated?” the commenter continued. “He’s already gonna be your ex husband for cheating so its kinda pointless by now to worry about this.”
At the same time, others could understand why the woman was upset in spite of the separation.
“Separated is very different from decidedly moving toward certain impending divorce,” one commenter explained. “Many times, couples separate while they ~figure out what to do.~” However, the person added that moving on from cheating requires “accountability” and “meaningfully change” — two things that this woman’s husband might be lacking.
Responding directly to the comment, the woman revealed that the discovery really stung because her husband had recently purchased a book about how to be a “better man” and started going to therapy, which had given her hope he was committed to change.
Several people told the woman that the suspicious weigh-ins were the sign she needed to confirm it’s time to move on.
“This is expert-level sleuthing,” one woman wrote. “Men underestimate our level of intuition. When you confront him, he’ll probably try to paint you as crazy or paranoid. You’re not. They don’t get it – they could fart differently and we’d know something’s up.”
