Full disclosure: I'm not a fan of subscription boxes, especially the "rental" ones. Who wants to pay a monthly fee only to have to mail your swag back? But I can't escape the popularity and good reviews for Gwynnie Bee, the OG plus-size fashion box.
In the spirit of curiosity and trying new things (and because my boss asked me to), I decided to give this subscription box a try.
Gwynnie Bee is for women sized 10 to 32. There are six different boxes from $49 to $199 per month. I went with three items for $95 a month after the 30-day free trial.
I then put 25 items in my virtual closet and flagged eight "priorities." When available, GB promises to send you at least one of your priority picks.
The first item out of my box was this off-the-shoulder dress, not one of my priorities. The dress fit comfortably and made me feel easy breezy. The brand name is Yours Truly.
I'd have to pay $21 if I wanted to keep this dress for more than a month. That discounted price is 48% off the retail cost, according to Gwynnie Bee.
Next up: overalls! I've avoided yet admired overalls from afar for quite some time now. This was one of my priorities and I'm glad I got it. They're from the brand City Chic.
Survey says... too tight. I should have sized up when selecting this as a priority. I couldn't even bend over! These are $36 to buy with a GB subscription.
There is nothing I like more than a jumpsuit, so naturally this was one of my priority items. It's also by Yours Clothing and costs $30 for GB subscribers.
For a moment, I didn't think this would pass my thighs, but it did. #NEVERGIVEUP
I was automatically feeling myself. The comfort level was on another level. It definitely passed the twerking test.
P.S. Don't worry about sweating in the clothes. Gwynnie Bee will take care of it. Just wear it and send it back.
Speaking of which, here's Gwynnie B's guidelines for washing your clothes.
And here's what happens if you damage an item.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
PROS
– It was great to try clothes that I wouldn't normally pick up.
– Trying things on in the comfort of my own home was awesome.
– Not having to do laundry is also a plus.
CONS
– $95 a month is a lot to pay for the thrill of the unexpected and a discount on something you may or may not want to buy.
– I found a few things, but overall the clothing options weren't edgy enough for me.
