The Kardashian/Jenner family has long been accused of blackfishing and co-opting the culture and looks of black women. And now it seems to have boiled over for Kim Kardashian. The famous sister is catching some serious heat after a recent magazine cover revealed an almost unrecognizable Kardashian.
Social media is in shambles, and black women are angry. Sounds like Kardashian may have some explaining to do.
Kim Kardashian is once again under fire for appearing darker in pictures than she is.
The socialite and reality TV star is the January cover star for 7Hollywood magazine, and she's showing off an almost unrecognizable look. In the glamorous yet suspicious spread, Kardashian appears to be several shades deeper. Immediately, comments rolled in accusing her of blackfishing and Twitter hasn't been able to stop talking about it.
Many people feel that she did it on purpose.
"The thing with Kim Kardashian and her family’s tireless history of cultural appropriation and blackfishing is that she knows better. They know better. But they continue to do this because they know outrage sells. They’re able to keep their name relevant by doing things like THIS," a Kardashian critic tweeted.
She was accused of "hating black women."
"Kim Kardashian don't care about black women," someone wrote. "You can be as loud and upset as you want. KARDASHIANS DON'T CARE ABOUT BLACK WOMEN. Their brand is able to exist by gettin access into black culture through black men who will defend them till the end cause they too hate black women."
Yikes.
It seems to be a recurring theme.
And many black women expressed their exhaustion of constantly seeing similar things from the Kardashian/Jenner clan. "I feel so sorry for people of colour who come online and have to see people like Kim Kardashian and co just doing casual blackface. Kardashians keep culture appropriating, then give a half ass apology then move onto to their next money making scandal," someone said.
However, not everyone shared those sentiments.
As Kardashian is Armenian, some say it simply looks like her with a good tan. "Middle eastern women can look dark after being out in the sun or after a fake tan. This does not look like black face. Maybe I don’t see black face cause I’m not living in the US. I see a middle eastern woman with a dark tan," someone said with an opposing view.
So what do we think? Should Kardashian apologize to the masses that she's offended amid this magazine release?
