Man Humiliates His Wife at Their Son’s 1st Birthday Party & It’s a Major Red Flag

Few things in life are as cute as a baby digging into a cake on their first birthday. It's a rite of passage for the child and the parents. That delicious, fluffy dessert, dripping with sticky sweet icing, means you've all survived that tough first year. Seeing your baby elbow-deep in crumbs and a sprinkle-covered smile is the best. That is, of course, unless some idiot adult comes along and ruins it.

That person always seems to show up on TikTok. You're just mindlessly scrolling, and bam! There they are. One mom shared a now-viral birthday TikTok that hit our FYP and a lot of other people's as well. It's amassed 2.9 million views! Her husband's behavior during the cake smash has a lot of people wanting Candie to tell her man to hit the road.

It's a sweet video.

@candie1983 The time I wanted to choke my husband for putting out son smash cake in my face, surrounded my family i had just met for the first time. I had long look forward too our son 1st party and the family pictures… we didnt get but one photo before i had to shower. Not sure why he thought this was a good idea… I cried like a baby at the memories lost, cake was even cut while i showered If he does tbis ever again, he wont live to talk about it. #firstbirthday #ourson#12months #1stbirthday #firstbirthdayparty #fyp #foryoupage #husband #dumbhusband #notcool ♬ original sound - Candie1983

It had all the makings of a perfect cake smash video. There was a cute baby, happy parents, lots of family and friends off-camera singing sweetly, and a delicious cake ready to be devoured. But the baby wasn't really that into it. That's not so unusual. Sometimes it takes a second for them to warm up to the idea. But once they get that first taste, they usually go to town.

Candie's son was just "meh" about the whole thing, which may have been a tad disappointing, but not that big of a deal. Right?

Candie's husband seemed to want a bit more action.

After their son doesn't go ham on the cake, Candie's husband holds it up, and she goes in for a taste. That wasn't enough for him, though. Nope, he took that cake and smashed it all over her face while he laughed.

The moans behind the camera are audible, and the whole thing will just make your heart sink. It was beyond obvious that she didn't want that cake in her face, but he seemed to think he was funny. The whole thing was just, eww.

She said she was humiliated.

@candie1983 Follow up to cake smash, i cant keep up with all the remarks, so hope this helps answer questions about the situation and party.#momsoftiktokclub #mom #fyp #foryoupage #firstbirthdayparty #viralvideo #bekind ♬ original sound - Candie1983

It seems the caption tells the story: "The time I wanted to choke my husband for putting out son smash cake in my face, surrounded my family i had just met for the first time. I had long look forward too our son 1st party and the family pictures … we didnt get but one photo before i had to shower. Not sure why he thought this was a good idea … I cried like a baby at the memories lost, cake was even cut while i showered If he does tbis ever again, he wont live to talk about it." And plenty of people agreed that this was not cool.

"The way I would actually lose my mind if this happened to me …" someone agreed.

"I just feel like this is so hurtful," another person wrote. "Like why would he do that? It all was so cute before that and then totally ruined."

"Why do I feel the vibe is off?" a TikToker asked. "I'm sorry this happened at such a special occasion. I hope he understands how it made you feel, mama ."

"This is not ok," someone agreed. "No respect. Huge red flag. You are right not to be over it. There will be worse things because he is clueless. I'm so sorry. ☹️."

She claimed he hurt her feelings, and that is totally understandable.

But some thought she overreacted.

"I have theee kids and every birthday party for the last 10 years ENDS in a cake fight," a commenter explained. "Have fun with life. It's not all about getting photos ‍♀️."

"I am big on photos, i was a high risk pregnancy and dreamed of his first birthday party.. if any other moment so be it… this was my baby 1st," Candie commented back.

"I'm not a mom so I don't quite understand," another person commented. "I understand not wanting cake on my face but I don't see why its the end of the world ‍♀️."

Candie responded: "Not the end of the world, upset at memories lost.. cake cutting and family photos i really wanted. I was a high risk pregnancy so looked forward to it."

A follow-up told a different story.

Candie posted a follow-up on Friday, a few days after the video blew up. She claimed that the entire thing turned into an "animal," and she wanted to set some things straight. She said she and her husband had multiple miscarriages, and she noted this little boy was their miracle. She is a good mom and he husband is a "damn good daddy."

Candie explained that although she was disappointed, that was a year ago, and now she can look back and laugh. She says the comments section has been more hurtful than the experience, and she wants people to "be kind."

She is right. Being kind is important. But her husband should think that way, too. Being funny isn't always kind, particularly if you have to make someone else the butt of your joke.
