Man’s ‘Work Wife’ Gets a Huge Dose of Reality After Meeting His Real Wife at an Office Party

Even the most trusting and loving relationships can get dicey when outside forces interfere. One woman thought her world was about to come crashing down around her after interacting with one of her husband’s colleagues. In a Reddit post from a few years ago that has gone viral once again, a 35-year-old wife asked people online if they thought she was “allowing” her husband to cheat on her because she didn’t speak up to him about a weird interaction.

To set the scene, the wife claims she was approached at the office party by a young 25-year-old colleague of her husband’s who explained how weird it was they were “like totally different people.”

When the wife asked her why that was weird, as they had just met, the woman responded it was because she and the husband get along so well and they “totally get each other and have a lot in common.” The wife was fairly amused by the bizarre interaction, until the drive home when she started really thinking about their interactions and noting they seemed to chat a lot even on the weekends.

When they returned home, the wife admitted to snooping through his texts and found a lot of messages, which the woman had initiated, and she even saw a message from the night of the party where the young woman called her “boring.” She ultimately decided not to talk to her husband about it after feeling silly for snooping.

The wife ended up having her usual brunch with her mom, aunt, and sister-in-law, where she confided in them about the party and the text messages. They immediately told her she was being an “AH” for not “nipping it in the bud,” but she felt strongly that it wasn’t for her to “stand guard” over her husband.

“I want a willing husband not a prisoner,” she told Reddit after asking the masses if it was wrong she let the interactions slide. “I want someone who wants me 100% or nothing,” she wrote.

Redditors certainly didn’t think she was wrong for the way she felt but encouraged her to talk about it with him.

“…the fact that he’s letting it happen in text,” stated one Redditor. “One can only imagine what happens in real life. Either she’s purposely trying to get him to slowly make moves on her, or he’s just letting it happen and is enjoying the attention.

“If I were you, I’d talk to him about this. If anyone called my significant other boring, I’d light them up,” the person continued. “Even if it was a good friend. What’s boring to some may not be boring to another. The fact that he let her get away with saying that is to me… a silent agreement of what she said from his end.”

Luckily, the woman had a positive update. After looking through her husband’s messages again, she saw the colleague contacting him and actually prodding him about his wife.

“She called me boring again and he said that this was the second time she disrespected me and that he didn’t appreciate it but thought she was joking the first time,” she wrote. “Then she again told him that she didn’t think we were a good fit and was surprised to see how I was because we didn’t seem to have a lot in common and she talked about gaming and music. He said it was shallow minded to believe having the same superficial interests equals having a lot in common and laughed. She called me boring again and he said that she was great at her work and all but that she shouldn’t text him privately again. He stopped answering afterwards.”

The general consensus on Reddit was that the two need to talk regardless, because communication is the key to a long-lasting, drama-free union.
