With Easter coming up, I’ve been slowly trying to stockpile eggs so my kids will have some to color for the holiday.
Eggs, however, are incredibly expensive where we live and in a family of seven, we eat the eggs faster than I can stock them. So when I saw that Walmart introduced a $2 marshmallow dye kit – which includes everything you need from the marshmallows to the coloring pens to decorations, all in a convenient and cute “egg” carton – I was blown away.
Dyeing marshmallows instead of eggs is a genius solution to anyone who can’t access eggs right now or simply doesn’t want to waste a perfectly good egg by coloring it for Easter. It’s all the fun of coloring with none of the work (or the price).
Plus, if you’re anything like my family with five kids, you know that egg coloring can quickly become a very time-consuming process. It takes me forever to hard-boil enough eggs for all my kids, some will inevitably crack, and it’s never enough – someone always wants more eggs to color because it’s so much fun.
And when it’s over? I’m left with 80 hard-boiled eggs that, let’s face it, are hard to use up. There’s only so many egg salad sandwiches a mom can stomach, you know what I’m saying?
A festive, mess-free twist on egg decorating, this first-of-its-kind kit features everything needed to design adorable Easter masterpieces for just $1.99, which is about what the average price of a dozen jumbo eggs was in early 2022.
The Jet-Puffed Dip & Decorate Dozen kit is available at Walmart.com while supplies last.
Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Dye Kit

The kit includes Jet-Puffed Jumbo Marshmallows, which are four times the size of regular marshmallows and just about the same size as jumbo eggs, making them ideal for replicating any of your kids’ favorite Easter egg designs.
The genius of using a marshmallow dye kit instead of eggs is that the marshmallows are easy for little hands to handle and they will maintain their shape while easily soaking up any colors you add. Even better? They’re ready to decorate straight out of the bag: There’s no boiling, cooling, mixing, or vinegar dye soaking (that smell, though) required.
The Jet-Puffed Dip & Decorate Dozen Kit is the first marshmallow kit created specifically for Easter decorating and complete with everything families need to design Easter masterpieces for one-tenth of the price of eggs.
The marshmallow dye kit includes:
- Six varieties of rainbow food colorings
- Bright, fine-point decorating pens and drizzles for custom designs (Bunny whiskers, anyone?!)
- Miniature tongs that make it easy for the whole family to participate in the decorating
- 24 oz. bag of Jet-Puffed Jumbo Extra Large Marshmallows
All of this for $2? Honestly, it’s such a good deal, I’m picking up a kit even if we do end up dyeing eggs. It’s too good to pass up!
Alternative to Eggs

In addition to being a much more convenient way of enjoying coloring fun for Easter, the price of this marshmallow kit is also appealing. Since last February, egg prices have risen by a whopping 58%, with prices showing no signs of slowing down.
Additionally, marshmallow dyeing is also an egg-free alternative. If you have family or friends with an egg allergy, marshmallows can be an allergen-friendly way to still enjoy plenty of Easter fun. You could host a marshmallow dye kit party; no eggs needed.
The Jet-Puffed marshmallow dye kit has limited supplies, so if you aren’t able to snag one, you can also pick up food coloring markers and a pack of jumbo marshmallows to re-create some Easter fun at home.
