I started my self-love journey almost six years ago, and to this day I work on it daily.
It's so engraved in our brains that we have to look a certain way to leave the house, be around people, or even have our photo taken. We get so caught up with trying to be good enough or blend in, that we don't even realize we're hiding in plain sight.
Here are some of the ways we keep ourselves hidden without even a second thought.
Using a pillow to cover your stomach when you sit down.
Using your long hair as a security blanket.
Wearing cardigans in the summer to cover your arms.
Running to the back of a group picture to avoid showing your body.
Not posting full body selfies.
Dressing plainly so people won't notice you.
Shrugging off compliments.
Hiding under baggy clothes.
Wearing oversize jewelry to seem smaller.
Not wanting anyone to see you eat, and only eating small portions around people.
Many of us are still working on becoming kinder to ourselves. If you relate to one or all of these items, remember: you are more than just a body. Live your life!
Don't stress out trying to be a better version of yourself. Who you are today is more than enough.
