Last week was my son’s birthday, so I arranged for my husband to take him and his friends to a local trampoline park. When they returned, my husband told me a story he found funny.
He related how the trampoline park had a sitting area with Wi-Fi, so many parents would bring their kids to play while they worked on their laptops. While he sat watching our son and his friends play, he noticed another husband and wife who were both there while their kids ran in and out of the sitting area.
Although the wife seemed to be engrossed heavily in meetings on her laptop, the husband was merely scrolling on his phone, watching videos, and looking very relaxed.
Can you guess where this story is going?
If you guessed that although the wife seemed very busy and the husband appeared very not busy, she was the one the kids ran to every other second when they needed something, you would be right.
My husband told me the story with some amusement, but I admit I didn’t find the story quite as amusing as he did.
It didn’t strike me quite as humorous because, as a mom who works from home, I have found myself in that exact same situation far too often. And that’s not to speak ill of my husband, who works extremely hard too, but it is to acknowledge the fact that all too often, even if a mom has her hands very full with work and who knows what else, we’re often the ones our children turn to.
