When hiring someone to care for your children, parents want to ensure they are getting the best. We want our kids to be safe, nurtured, and loved. But is it essential for the caregiver to be of the same religious or faith background? Some might think that it would make things easier, but if you have someone who is respectful of how you are raising your children and is willing to learn your customs and practices, that can be a huge blessing.
One non-Jewish nanny is taking TikTok by storm.
Adriana Rosie Fernandez from Boca Raton, Florida, who calls herself @nonjewishnanny on TikTok, could teach us all a thing or two. She is not Jewish, but the children she nannies for are, and she has done a fantastic job of immersing herself in their culture.
Rosie uses TikTok to share stories about the kids and to introduce people to aspects of Orthodox Jewish culture and experiences that many of us have not ever seen before.
Adriana has embraced many things about Jewish culture.
She does her best to ensure that she does things correctly for the children she nannies. Many of them are Orthodox Hasidic Jews, who have stringent rules about food and how it is prepared.
Healthline states, "'Kosher' refers to a Jewish dietary framework for food preparation, processing, and consumption. Though variations exist, most guidelines forbid pairing meat and dairy and allow only certain animals to be eaten."
Rosie is sure to prepare things properly for the families she works for and will sometimes shop kosher for herself. She posts her hauls on TikTok, and it's pretty interesting — and delicious.
She's always learning.
Adriana understands that life is all about learning, and she is constantly doing her best to immerse herself in the Jewish culture and to learn as much as possible so she can do her best to honor and to respect certain customs and practices with her charges. She loves learning more about language and does her best to pronounce things correctly.
She's someone who always embraces other cultures.
It's refreshing to see how committed Adriana is to understanding Jewish customs and culture. She explains in one TikTok that “everything about the Jewish Culture is MINDFUL” and that she is equally mindful of respecting those traditions.
In another TikTok, she teaches us about putting on makeup for Shabbos and the rules that go along with it, and it's truly eye-opening.
The internet loves it.
Rosie is a hit among Jews and Gentiles alike. Although she doesn't always get it quite right (she's shown up to school pickup in some outfits that were deemed inappropriate), people love her honesty and willingness to learn more about the Jewish culture. Most importantly, her clients and families love her, and she's booked daily.
“I’ve been Jewish my entire life and never knew there is shabbat makeup. Must look into this,” a comment on one video reads.
“I love watching your videos!! j to lyk most religious jews don’t follow so strictly so esp non jew shouldn’t feel pressured to do it:) ur so repsectful,” another person commented.
“As a Jewish guy I’m now learning about the halachos for woman lol,” someone wrote on another video.
Adriana is more than just a nanny.
In addition to nannying for several families, she also has a master's degree, is an opera singer, and works as a bottle girl. She sometimes highlights other parts of her life, but it is clear that her true passion is nannying and not only learning but teaching others about Jewish culture.
She mixes humor and a little fun into her lessons, and many people are grateful to have her. Keep up the excellent work. We could all spend more time learning about other cultures and being more accepting.
