What the Craft?
Button Bow Tie Kit
Here's what's going on here: One big bow tie, a string with self-adhesive fasteners and colorful self-adhesive "buttons." Yeah, it's that easy. We felt like crafting champions after whipping through a boatload of bow ties. Also, we were quite dapper.
Balloon Animals
Then we got too cocky and decided to get a kit to make balloon animals. There's a reason you pay professionals money to come entertain your children with balloon monkeys hanging from a tree. Because mere mortals cannot master this craft, as seen by our sad "snake" balloons that would not stay twisted … no matter how hard we wrung those little balloon necks.
Paper Roll Valentine Paper
Back to basics time, where all you need is some paint, some paper and an empty toilet paper roll. Thanks to Pinterest, I learned you can bend that toilet paper roll into a heart shape, dip it in paint and decorate some paper, like so! We added glitter when the paint was still wet, because we're fancy like that.
Star Wars Cookbook
At this point, I decided we would get crafty with food, because even allowing for the worst case scenario, we can eat our failures. Royal icing is clearly not my friend, as seen in the demo pictures of our sad, cockeyed, Yoda cookie. Even though we followed directions laid out in the Star Wars Cookbook, the force was not with us.
Mason Jar Terrarium
And now, for my most favorite family craft of all! Introducing, the mason jar terrarium. Yes, it is satisfying creating a living thing with cute accoutrements by just piling it into a jar you already have on hand. A little spray paint for your lid, and you've got instant art—and you only have to head to the nursery or hardware store for supplies. Win!
