A 10-year-old girl in Brazil recently gave birth to a child. If that wasn’t traumatic enough, her pregnancy was the result of statutory rape. And the rapist? It was reportedly her stepfather. That would be horrific enough, but it came to light that not only did her mother know that the girl was being raped, but she also did nothing to stop it and didn’t report it. In fact, she also let her partner rape her younger daughter. I cannot begin to fathom how a mother could know that something horrible is happening to her daughters and do nothing to stop it. Then, she had the nerve to lie to police to protect him! I hope they both stay in prison for a long time.
Authorities were notified after the girl showed up at the hospital in labor.
The 10-year-old girl went into labor on April 3, 2026, D24am reported. While the girl was receiving medical care, her mother gave information described as “evasive” in an apparent attempt to protect her partner from being found out. The mom was already aware of her partner’s abuse and didn’t stop or report it.
In addition to the girl who gave birth, the woman also has an 8-year-old daughter.
“From this, in partnership with the Military Police, Guardianship Council and the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (Creas), an operation was carried out to rescue the 8-year-old victim in a rural community. During the arrival of the teams, the author fled through a forest area,” Deputy Bruno Rafael explained.
Thankfully, the sisters were removed from their mother’s custody.
According to Rafael, after the girls were rescued from their mother and stepfather, they both had to undergo testing to confirm that sexual abuse took place, the outlet reported. They also underwent specialized listening sessions where they reported that they were raped by their stepfather.
“Throughout the investigations, we found that the couple left Itacoatiara for Nova Olinda do Norte recently, along with the children, motivated by the physical change caused by the pregnancy in the body of the 10-year-old child,” Rafael said.
As all of the information was being collected, on April 4 the case was brought before a judge. It was decided that the 10-year-old girl and her sister would be removed from the custody of their mother and stepfather. They will now be in the care of their aunt.
The couple is facing serious charges.
The 30-year-old mother was arrested by the Civil Police of Amazonas through the 47th Interactive Police Station of Nova Olinda do Norte on April 5 in the hospital where her daughter had been admitted, AM1 reported. She was charged with omission and improper conduct.
The 23-year-old stepfather was arrested the following day in the Centro neighborhood, which is also in the municipality. He was charged with rape of a vulnerable person.
The couple, who has not been identified, will remain in police custody as court proceedings continue.
