A woman in Thailand is being questioned after allegedly giving birth in the street during a festival. After giving birth, the woman allegedly abandoned her newborn baby and disappeared. Later, she was reportedly seen enjoying the festivities with her friends. But eventually, she was connected to the newborn.

Now, she has been taken in by police for allegedly abandoning her child. Additionally, her friends and family are rumored to want nothing to do with her because of her heinous actions.

According to The Thaiger, a 27-year-old woman gave birth on a Bangkok street during the popular Songkran Festival. The body of an abandoned newborn was found on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Police identified the woman as Piyathida.

The woman told police that she felt the urge to urinate, and instead found herself in labor. In grainy video footage shared on Facebook, she can be seen pulling down her pants and squatting behind potted plants. Eventually, she leaves something behind the plants and limps away. Multiple news reports claim she then went to join friends splashing in the water while visibly bleeding.

Later in the footage, bystanders find the abandoned newborn. It was still alive and given CPR, but sadly, the baby didn’t survive.

Initially, Piyathida denied having given birth when questioned by police. She did eventually admit that she had. She allegedly told police she doesn’t know who the father of the baby is. It is reported that she has two other children currently in the care of other family members.

After her story went public, Piyathida posted an apology on Facebook, shared by The Thaigen. “I would like to apologise to everyone who was affected and troubled because of me,” she wrote. She added: “I didn’t intend to abandon my baby. I had only just found out that I was pregnant when I was already six months along.”

The post continued: “I didn’t know what to do afterwards and didn’t dare tell any of my friends what had happened. I swear I didn’t return to enjoy the water-splashing as the news claimed. I feel remorseful for what I’ve done and accept the consequences of my actions, but please give me a chance to improve.”

The Thaigan reported that her friend Am spoke with local news telling them that while they were once close, Piyathida’s actions went too far. Am decided to end the friendship.

Don Mueang Police Station told local news that it planned to question her further, but that she was still recovering from significant blood loss. Police are also awaiting the results of an autopsy for the baby before deciding on charges against her.
